Amazing that trike came 10,000 miles away. Are 250R's rare there?
Did Honda not import a lot there?

I'n the 80s trikes in Australia were just starting to catch on when everything went belly up in the US. Motorbikes are more popular over here
By 85/86 Honda dealers had 250r's, 200x's, 200/250 big reds, atc125s and ATC70s in the dealerships. Yamaha had YTM200, 225s, and tri-Zs, Kawasaki had the KLT250 and some selected dealers even had 85 model Tecates.
Basically we got the full farm varients or some of the race bikes and not much in between. I can't remember ever seeing a 350x, 250sx, or 200m in an australian show room, 86/87 Tecates were never bought in either and I doubt if many 86 Tri-Z ever made it here.
Having said that, you see a lot of 85 tri-zs, I think a few yamahas destine for the US ended up our way once threewheeler sales slowed down over there.

Yes it seems like there are a lot of tri-z's there just by some of the postings.
The wife and I actually want to take a vacation there in the future to check it out. Seems like a nice place.
When the conditions are right, I can talk to Aussies on my ham radio. All the operators there are cool as cool can be! They give me the low down on the nice places to go.
I also listen to talk shows and news from Australia on my shortwave radio to get the scoop on whats going on. Very interesting listening and great talk shows.

I picked it up in Esk out in the Brisbane Valley area, yes it was David G,he had big dollars on the couple he had but he gave in and lowered the price on this one,its a good base for restoration.I mixed the trip up with the V8 Supercar release at Southbank so it was a good holiday.

Have you and your friends ( our friends too I reckon ) done up pics of your riding areas down there ? I would like to see some if you have not done up any.
I have this silly arse notion that the open spaces of the outback are open to what-ever / when -ever but know that is probbly not the case ( or is it ?).

Hi John
Take a look here
http://www.sandsafaris.com.au/

this a company that runs tours around our local ride area, has some good pics of the region,Port Stephens New South Wales. We are located on the coast so not some much of the "Outback" you hear of but i have been out west and its BIG !

Nice score on the R' dooner, looks cherry! Can't be that many left over there that haven't been beat, chopped up, modified to death, or left out to die. I've been thinking the same thing as swinehart; I have these pictures in my head of vast, open spaces where you can ride for days. Maybe it's just 'cause there's no land at all left around here- every square inch is accounted for and either "developed" or being "developed". Interested to see pics of your ride areas.

Ive noticed with this import that the complience tag is a decal whereas our Aussie R's were a riveted metal plate and this one has no reflectors or brackets where they used to be.

Yep John those rims and tyres are going to Douglas Red Label and paddles for the dunes.

Yeah I know him, he came to a few of our quad meetings but I think he was more interested in the trikes and not so much on the competition so he sorta faded away a bit. The boys went out there one weekend and had a go on his bikes, I was not happy that I missed that becaues I was basically the only trike nutter in the club. As soon as you said you were headed up that way I knew where you were off to.
Did he have a 350X out there? I would have love to have seen his collection, oh well........
So does that make it 2 250Rs you have now?

Nice move with the Tarago, Safe from; prying eyes, bird *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited*, and gives good fuel economy to boot. I love the photo of the 350X in the back of the other van, looks like his pet dog in the back. I wonder If he keeps it there all the time?
As for the ride weekend, I'm lookin at the weekend of the 24/25 March, pending on any races down this way. If there isnt any I'm there is that weekend good for you Aussie?
