My '85 SX has no third gear- it's like neutral between 2nd & 4th. I was reading up on transmissions, & I came upon the shift return spring. I had a GT80 that would not shift AT ALL(Neutral all the time, no matter what you did) & i removed the clutch side case cover to find a broken return spring, replaced it & the bike was good as new. From what I was reading in my(old Yamaha) manual, it said that you could shift from one gear to another, but one gear may never connect.. Seems like a long shot, but Is there any way this is possible on my SX trans? Thanks, TGG...................
