Hi, i live in Uruguay, i have an old ATC90.
Im looking to buy a trike, but i can only find ATC110´s, theyre asking about $1300-1900. I cant find any trike now, also i´ve never seen a 185, 200, 250, 350, etc here, i guess only older models were imported.
Theres also a law that says we cant import vehicles from 1980 to the date, only older models!!!!
I see you can buy awesome machines for $1000 or $1500, im getting crazy!!!!
Anyone modified an ATC90 to get more power, with a 200 or 250 motor?
Help me please!

First off, Welcome to the site!! We hope you enjoy it!! Greenhuman has modified a 200x engine to fit in a atc70, so I can safely say: If there is a will there is a way. Here is a thread with some of the info in it.

If I was you, I would buy one piece at a time. That way you won't Import the entire ATC :w00t:

Yeah with ebay and the guys here with your 13-1900 you could but the parts a chunk at a time and have a 200x or whatever you want.Even have the guy you buy a frame from take off the year sticker or even get one of the reproduction year stickers on ebay for an 80 or older trike and stick it on there.

Unfortunately, the law says "you can only import Sports Cars with more than 20 years", i cant even import accesories or parts!!!
I have to keep looking for the 110´s or modify my ATC90, i cant believe it
Incredibly, theres a page ( http://webs.montevideo.com.uy/3foot/ ) of a guy who modified his ATC90 into a 125, look at it.
I´ll keep waiting for suggestions to modify my old 90.
I should have say: "you cant import used cars or parts, unless its a Sport Car", also it must be from 1980 or before

Here is a place to get parts if you figure a way to import the stuff.Im pretty sure you can put a 110 motor in there but its going to be hard to do much if you cant order a single part.

WOW! Sounds like a terrible place to live. Seriously, if you could get one in there without anyone knowing, is it illegal to actually posess a trike made after 1980? Or is it only illegal to import one? Do some research on the legal language and see if there are any loopholes in the law!

No, its not illegal to posess a trike, you cant only import parts or used vehicles, unless its considered a "Sports Car" ( old mercedes, MG, etc).
Uruguay its a very nice place to live, there are not the problems that you can see in another parts of South America.
Dufrain, thanks for the link i have to see what can i do about this law.
I´ll keep looking

Not that I'd reccomend any illegal acitivty, but how exactly do they identify what year of machine the parts fit for? What keeps you from importing 200x parts and saying their for a 76 ATC90? Just curious.

Thats what Im thinking, the only thing that would say the year is the frame sticker and you know how durable that is.

I cant import anything for a trike, doesnt mind if it is 1976 or 1986. If i had an old Mercedes, for example, i could import whatever i want, but a trike is not considered a "Sport Car".
F...ing law.
Here new quads are VERY expensive, you have to spend around $10k to buy a Yamaha 350.....

Why are the importing laws so strict? Is there a problem with too much money going out of the country? How do they regulate it?

Well...if you cant import anything then your gonna have to make everything. Do you have access to a machine shop, or the necessary tools? Lathe, Milling machine, welder, grinders, band saws, tubing benders, ect?
You mentioned quads...can you import parts or accessories for them? Perhaps you could get around the law by importing an item that is for a quad but could be made to fit on the trike?

Exactly what I was thinking..... Some laws are ment to be broken, sounds like this is a case in which that holds true to me! Import an 86 250r and slap a "made in 1979" sticker on it!!!! :naughty:

Tell the regulators that that red three wheel thing was a special issue BMW 200i and that they only made one of them and it was owned by Harley Davidson.

How about some mercedes made 3 wheeler parts.Id put mercedes parts on the invoice .Buy some stuff from the guys here I doubt they would mind to put "mercedes parts" on a piece of paper in the box.I would do it if I had the parts you need.Thats a retarded law.

Sounds like you've got to find a trike for sale in a neighboring country, get yourself a little pickup truck, and go get it. Drive back home in the middle of the night, sneak in on a back road, and you're home free!
