I'm looking to get a steel braided brake line for the front of the 350X.. the plastic ones just don't go with the look of the polished forks, aluminum rim, and polished tripples. I looked on eBay for some, and I did a search on the forums but nothing really helped. I'm not quite sure what exactly I want to look for and what length and everything else. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?
And also.. I have $40 left in my PayPal account to purchase things from eBay or wherever, so that is my limit :)

Thank you! I think that is just what I'm looking for, and I'm almost certain it will fit. Even if it doesn't, its not a big deal. I'll just put it on my 250R if it doesn't fit the X.. lol. Then get another one for the X. I'm going to eventually get one for the R anyway..

The name brand of the braided brake hoses is "russell". I hope the spelling is correct. See if your local dirtbike accessory dealer has russell brake hoses or can get them. I don't have the hose numbers in front of me, I'm at work now. One of the brake lines had a clear covering, front I believe and the rear had no clear covering. You can get clear shrinkwrap tubing and cover the line if you would want to. Hopefully both yours will come with the clear covering as the braided brake lines can be kind of abrasive

I saw another post that said Russell sold them, and after looking them up online I don't think they sell them anymore. I go to their main page, and it says to go to the "Flanders Search Engine" to find the hoses I need, and then after I go there it says there are no matches for an '85 350X..

When I get home after midnight I will look up the numbers for the hoses and post them. Did you look on ebay?, that's where I got mine.

Forget buying a premade line and run out to a local machine shop or that sort of company and have one made going by your old line. Shouldn't run more then 20 dollars. I know a friend of mine had one made for his sled for around 13 bucks.

I used a company in CA. Made custom brake lines for my truck. Only problem is he needed my originals. Maybe if you send some specs they can make em up that way? Reasonably priced. PM if interested

I found him on ebay and got lines for my 250R. They are the nice clear coated lines. All you have to do is send him the length you need. I paid $37 for the front and $25 for the rear.

The braided lines are cheap compared to nos. I love my braided lines.

Bunch of Harley riders out here get braided wire from an electric supply shop. They use them to Jacket over existing hoses, they work like those Chinese finger traps...the guys just sleeve them pull em tight and hose clamp them off...

it's all suspended animation, but it's inexpensive and gives you the look of braided hoses:welcome:

Personally I'm going for function rather than looks and am having issues locating anything as well.

Anyone try the goodridge universal braided lines? You buy the line in the length you want and then buy the banjos that just screw into the line...or so it appears to me. Found some on jpcycles.com and was considering giving them a try. I know the front line for my '86 should be between 46" & 48" and that I need the 10mm banjos (35 degree & 0 degree). Looks like the have a 47" line so I'm guessing it would work. Any thoughts????

I've noticed no difference in function from my stock lines, anyone else? I mean the breaks work just the same, from slow stop to lock-up skid I can't tell any diff... but they look good / less obtrusive.

A good SS line will be way more stiff and responsive than a rubber line because there's no "swell" from the pressure. All of the power goes to the caliper.

I swapped out my original rubber lines for braided SS (Stainless Steel) about a year ago, and I noticed a huge difference in the stiffness of the SS ones. If you're comparing a SS line to a new rubber line, you may not notice much of a difference, but once that rubber line gets a few years old & stretched out a little bit, the brakes will get a bit mushy.

I ordered a 5 ft section of this spiral cable wrap last week to put on my brake lines. I will let you know how it works out when it gets here..

I got the wrap in the mail today. The front brake line on my 350X is not 5 ft, of course, but the brake line is thicker than the 3/8 ID of the spiral wrap, so it almost took the whole length to cover it. It comes in larger diameters, but I wanted to get the size smaller than my brakeline, so it would fit tight. That was a good choice. It takes some time to get it on, but you don't have to remove any parts, which was cool. All of my old clear liner had cracked off, so I was just wrapping the black brake hose. I had 3 inches left when I was done. The best way I can describe this product is a flat spiral plastic spring. When you get it wrapped, it stays put because of the spring tension and looks like a solid sleeve, because the coils fit tight together.

I have to tell you guys, I am impressed with this stuff. I used the black color just in case it didn't work like I hoped on the trike. It does come in other colors common on trikes (white, red, blue, yellow). This stuff fits tight, looks awesome and gives the hose some needed support, while still being flexible and providing protection from cuts and abrasion. I have some cable management on my computers this stuff will be great for, too. I am going to order the 100 ft roll next time to save $$$. If you just need to do your front brake line, the 5ft section is just right.

No, I don't have any interest in this company. I am just stoked about finding such an unexpectedly good product for my trike.

Guys, Guys, Guys ! Sorry for jumping in this thread so late, so here goes with my 2 cents. Every big city has a hydraulic pump/line/fitting company, they make these babies up all day long and in all types of configurations and materials. I just got back with a stainless braided brake line for my 350x. This particular one wasn't for the high pressure side, it was for the res to master line, but I have had them make up all kinds in the past.
