Ok. Had to take brake before i kill someone.
Took jet out of 250R and it was a 138. Manual calls for elevation 3300 to 6600 for a 140. Put 140 in and adjusted clip accordingly. Ran same way, crappin' when I gas it.
I am going to set the jetting for what the manual calls for at my altitude and temp, 140 main, 2nd clip position and 2 turns out on air screw.
Now the mixture of gas is quite smoky and fuel and oil was mixed at 32:1 with fresh 927 castor and 91 gas.
(I drained out amsoil because I need to add 2 gallons to lean it out)

Now another dilemma. The friggin slide, spring, plate. I dont know if clown put this together correctly or not and manual has a crummy pic of them removing a "plate retainer clip". Anyone have an exploded diagram of this?

Now another problem is the idle screw is turned all the was in and makes no difference if its all the way in or out.
Slide is not damaged and Jet needle not damaged either is the screw.
Anything else I might be missing?

are you using the factory service manual? You can get a copy at deepa.recongamer.com . I just went through my carb on my 85r, and installed a moose carb rebuild kit and it has run great ever since. My idle screw is almost completely screwed in. Make sure you cleaned out that whole starter jet that the 85 carb has. Its attached to the choke lever. The lever up means the starter jet is off, and the lever down means its on. I originally thought it was the opposite, and i was pissed off because it wouldnt run right and would die out. So i rebuilt the carb, and realized there was nothing wrong, just me not knowing how that choke thing worked.

What you do for the slide assembly is this. Install the needle. Install the plate with the notch aligning with the slit in the slide for the cable. Then, put the spring on top of the retainer clip. Slip the cable through the center of the spring and hold the spring up in the top cap so you can access the bottom plate. Install teh cable in the solt, then move the retainer clip until it fits in there snugly and is flat. Then install the *Edited* part of the clip first, make sure it goes in the groove in the slide. Then use a screwdriver or needlenoses to push the other two pieces of the clip down into the groove. Put the spring back down in the right spot, and install the whole thing into the slide. You probably know this, but i had a great time doing it haha.

I doubt this helps, but good luck

If you are running factory jetting it will run better at 20:1.

thanks. I ordered carb rebuild kit and will rebuild tomorrow. Going to mix up a small batch of normal good ol 2 stroke oil and see how that works.

Dammit!

You're not running a stock carb are you? I thought you had some 38mm carb on there. If it is, you can throw stock settings out the window. Stock jets for a for an R are going to be too lean for a 38mm carb. For refference, I'm running I think a 50 or 52 pilot and a 178 main. My elevation is lower though and my motor is modded a bit.

Bottom line, every machine is going to be a little different. Nobody is going to be able to tell you exactly what to run.

It's a stock PE 34 mm carb. Stock engine.
I took it apart to find out that the needle jet that screws in body of carb was looser than a goose.
I have all the parts soaking in carb cleaner right now. Already cleaned the body and blew out all passages.
Yes I am using that recon gamer Honda manual for specs.
The dude had a 138 main jet in there and by the manual, thats only good up to 5000 feet so I am going with the 140 and 2nd notch on needle for 3300 to 6600 feet. I looked it up and we are actually at 4700 feet now and where we ride its 6000 feet.
Like I say, I have new carb kit on order and was only 16.00. Shop told me it would be in tomorrow.
I honestly think the mix is way too rich because it still smokes heavy while warmed up. Should just be a light haze of smoke.
I am also going to try the 20:1 mix with some regular ol' 2 stroke oil and see how that will work.

If it is bogging off the bottom I believe your problem lies in the pilot jet. What size is in there? It's sounds Like you need a smaller pilot.Back in the day we used to run golden spectro in these 20 year old motors and used 1 bottle to 5 gallons of gas and the machines ran perfect. I guess you could have some other issues though..

You need to take a good read at this and get away from your manual. Do some plug chops with the mix and ratio you are going to run and keep running it. Plug chops and making the correct changes is how you should be going about this.

Well I found out the slide plate clip and plate were assembled wrong so when I rebuild and assemble, rejet, it should be better I hope!
