Well...

Last night.. i FINALLY got to work on the 125M after having it sit since last december partially apart..

The assembly that makes the shift drum rotate had a broken pawl at the top part... and i got a replacement quite some time ago.. I had not taken the old one out of the motor so that i would have less parts sitting around.

I removed the clutch.. and followed my clymer as i went along.. to my surprise.. i'm missing a bearing in there.. the pictures show a bearing behind the triangle piece that bolts to the clutch...

Then... i removed the primary gear ( the big gear that goes off after the clutch... ) and what do i find ????

oh god... this really bites.....

The inner case cover casting is messed up... who ever bolted the shift drum stopper last time torqued it down and broke it.. i can't beleive it.. it may have been caused by the shift pawl flying in there while the trike was moving.. god only knows...

But what do i do now ? Can this possibly be welded? will i need a new bottom end ?

arggggghhhhhh.....

If you have the part that is broken off and someone that can weld good, then you should be able to weld it back in. I have done this a few times. The main requirement is to make sure it gets welded straight, and that any and all weld splatter is washed out of the motor before re-assembly.

Looks like someone didn't know what the heck they were doing when they worked on it. If you need parts let me know, I have some. And I don't see a problem welding the case ( IMO ).

Then i hope it was just left out when last opened vs being ground up and in there....

I wish I had my manual handy here, but if that is where clymer shows it then that is where it supposed to be. I can get a pic if you want.

After some thought.. i'm going to take the motor out and take it to a friend to try and have it tig'ed and go from there..

I'm hoping the clutch bearing was left out and not chewed to bits in the tranny... that would SUCK.....

Looking at the clutch.. i don't like what i see.. alot of mangled metal there.. I'ma need Howdy's help i think ! lol..

I have seen a lot worse clutches that worked fine. The bearing for the clutch is the same in 90-110's so you may be able get one locally. If not I have 1 ( OK, probably 50 or more ).
Have you tested the clutch to see if it is good? Here is a simple test. You can test it by hand pretty easily. Hold the main part in one hand and twist the gear on the back with the other. It should turn one way ( slight to little resistance ). When you try the other way it should turn slightly and then it will want to turn the main housing.

Update:

Well.. i'm a happy camper right about now !!! lol..

I just received delivery of an antire replacement motor for the thing !!!

We have a " Super Saver " flyer around here.. basically free buy/sell/trade weekly local items.. and a guy had a 110 for sale " Restored from the ground up " is what the add said..

I figured that anyone who does a buildup on a trike must be a triker.. and trikers have parts !!! lol.... and sure as could be.. he had an entire motor, carb and electric start included.. missing the pull start but i have that on the current motor.. and the pipe studs are messed up.. but that's no big deal at all !

So.. it looks like the 125 may be running soon with any luck !!

WOOOOOhoooooo......
