According to the manual there is no official starting point given. I would Lightly screw it in until it gently bottoms out and turn it out 2 whole turns to start. The manual does say make your adjustments after the engine is fully warm. Once you get your idle set, turn your air screw in slowly until it starts to die, then open up your airscrew till it starts to die and your setting should be in the middle of those 2 points. After you set your air you might have to reset your idle. I hope this helps.

What you do is start out at 1 1/2 turns then keep unscrewing it until it starts crappin' out then back it in till' it starts crappin' then set back in middle of the two. Count the turns and that will help a lot.

Did you dip the carb overnight and use a rebuild kit, or did you just spray some carb cleaner in it. Sometimes the pressure from the can of carb spray can lodge dirt into the tiny air passages making it even harder to tune your carb.
