What parts of the frames fail on the 350X?

Just a guess would be where the lower rails meet the front main tube and/or around the swinger bolt above the foot pegs.

Can these areas be gusseted to add strength?

Now that I know I can add a TRX swinger to the 350x there isn't any reason why I shouldn't own one.:naughty:

Now... how to get rid of those puny forks???

Derrick, I've seen them break on the left side where the back motor mount bracket is welded to the frame. The spot where mine was broke was under the plastic about half way up the tube. I have seen two of them broke in the same spot. Look straight up from the left foot peg on the frame tube that runs from the top big tube under the gas tank to the bottom tubes. Mine was broke so bad that when you turned sharp to the left the chain would pop off. I'm sure they probly have other weak spots when you jump them hard. The 350X I had Was broke from the monsterous torque they have, It was trying to rip the motor out of the frame. It was broke when I bought it, after the chain came of twice I started to Investigate.

Craig welded it for me. Hasn't cracked since and there are no other cracks that I've noticed.

Just trying to figure out where to gusset the frame. If anyone can break it, you know I can! Looks like thats definately a spot to strengthen.

Derrick, I sliced a piece of thick walled tubeing & wrapped it around the origional tube after welding up the crack. It worked good for me.

Lomax is doing a rez project on a 350X right now. We were looking over the 3 frames he had to work with, and ALL of them were either broken or repaired in that spot above the left footpeg. The other bad spot I know of is at the back, where the seat grommets fit into the holes in front of the seat latch. Seems like all of them get cracks there, too. These are all '85 frames, fyi. I have heard that the '86 frames are a bit beefier.

Honda made adjustments for 86. Also... there are 2 different "batches" of frames in 86 too.

Progressive springs from dennis kirk 75 bucks? I have been pondering this myself. Also heard that you can swap out with aircooled 250r springs? :wondering

Late model 86's have a stronger frame. I have 5 350x's and and my brother and several friends have them, all 85's and all have broken frames in the spot pictured above. They also brake on the 2 tubes going to the grab bar on the left side, the flat one that goes parallell with the seat, about 3 inches before the other vertal tube meets it and the vertical one brakes ocasionaly also. All these spots are taken care of in the late 86 frames.

is their anyway to tell which 86 frame you have? or even the difference between an 85' and 86'?

There's a certain frame number where the second batch started. I'll try to look it up later in the week when I have time. OR... you can look in the 350X parts schematic yourself I "donated" to the site on the homepage! ;)
