Well, I have been working on this 70 for a while now and slowly but shurley I now have reached my goal of building a death machine. Engine is still mostly stock but with a few little tweaks here and there. So all of this has got me thinking that I don't really want to use the drum brake because I don't thin it is going to hold up very well against me and my usage of this trike. So I have been looking for parts to configure a rear disk brake setup for this baby. So far here is what I have came up with: I am going to use a disk from a shifter cart since they go fast and will probably be what I am after here. Now here is where my problem comes into play. I am trying to figure out what kind of caliper to use for this. I cant decide weather or not to use an cable actuated caliper or a hydrolic caliper. If I use the hydrolic one I am going to have to use a front master cylinder off of a bike or something and find some way to run the brake line so it doesn't melt(space is kinda limited on this build) different engine stuffed into a tiny frame will cause this I guess. So I was just throwing this out there to see if anyone else has ever thought of doing this or has actually done this. If you have any ideas on how you would go about this please by all means chime in!! Thanks

I've been planning the same thing on one of my suspension 70s'. I would use and aftermarket brake reservoir. If you know the ends you can use, you can take the bike to a shop that makes hydraulic hoses and they can make you a one piece hose that runs from the front reservoir to the rear caliper. One piece=no leaks. You can also go to any harley type store and they sell the end pieces and you just need to make a measurement and you can get a long piece of braided stainless line that you hook to the ends, but a shop that makes hydraulic hoses should have the braides lines also. Use the braides line with the clear cover in it!!!!! Braided brakeline with the clear cover is like have sawblade teeth all over your trike, the braided material is very abraisive without the clear cover. You can get on ebay and use the hydraulic caliper for use with the racing gokarts or barstool racers, I have a barstool racer with the hydraulic caliper. Your biggest or hardest piece would be making the mount so you can center your disk in your caliper, very important to do this. If it is not centered, it will warp and come in contact with the caliper and cause binding. It would be easier to put the caliper on the hardtail 70 than to put one on a suspension 70. Good luck and post pictures.

I thought I remember seeing those pictures. What is the caliper and the disc off of? That is a wild machine. If I could only rig a disc brake like that to my suspension 70s', I would be OK. Now I just need to talk to greenhuman about one of those 200x engines.

I agree that making the caliper mount perfectly squre is going to be the biggest problem. My buddy will machine me just about whatever I want on his CNC machine so I can get some cool stuff. Just takes a little longer to get. I am going to get rolling on this anytime now and I will get some pics as I make some progress.

That whole 70 started out as a CRF50 knockoff 110cc clutch motor. He made his own swinger. The rotor and caliper are from the rear of the knockoff 50.

I would suggest Avid BB7 (Ball Bearing 7 Series) cable actuated disc brakes. These brakes can be configured with their 6" or 8" rotors, and are actuated by a simple brake cable. If you really needed power you could rig up a Y adapter for the cable so that one lever operated two disc brake calipers on the rear of the trike. Avid is the best in braking for mountain bikes....
