Hello. I just wanted to introduce myself to the site. I'm Tim K from MA. I drove down to PA last week and bought that 82 250r that was on eBay a few weeks ago at East Coast. I paid $2000 for it. It is real nice, not as nice as the guy said it was but I am happy with it. I also picked up an 82 ATC200 in Valley Forge for $400. I was just looking at an old picture I have from 1982 when I bought a 1981 ATC250r used from the local Honda dealer. My 24 yr old 82 is a lot nicer. Man I beat that thing. I won't beat this one up.

BigGreenMachine It didn't sell on eBay so I emailed the seller and asked him if he still had it and how much. I just tried to look through completed auctions but I couldn't find it. They started the bidding at $2500 then when it didn't get any bids they listed it again for $1900 and got no bids again. I gave him $2000 becuase I really wanted it and most of the ones I see for sale are beat.

Two Grand though. Whew!!!!!!. '82's are my favorite R - I had one I lovingly restored piece by piece - then, sadly, someone decided they wanted her more than me, and took it from my shed. BTW, Tim, what was the guys name you bought the 200 from in Valley Forge?.

The guy's name was Justin. Didn't get a last name. He had lot's of minibikes and 3 wheeler's. 2 grand s a lot for that 82 but I wanted a nice one and couldn't find any. Most are beat, jut like the 81 I had 20 yrs ago. I beat on that thng and never had a problem with it. I have only seen 2 or 3 nice early 250r's for sale so I had to get this one.

Most are beat, jut like the 81 I had 20 yrs ago. I beat on that thng and never had a problem with it. I have only seen 2 or 3 nice early 250r's for sale so I had to get this one.I'm pretty sure he's the same guy that sold me my '86 200S. Nice enough guy - but - theres sort of a shadow hanging over my purchase. When I went to look at it, it had a really bad valve tap but ran great otherwise. When I asked him about it - is where it got tricky - he said he didn't really know anything about engines or wrenching and when I asked him if he'd ever adjusted the valves or the timing chain, he said he didn't know how to. So I thought "Bingo" I'll pick up this nice 200S, adjust the valves, give it a quick "freshen up" resto, and either turn it around right away or keep it as a snow runner/yard machine for my Dad. I agreed to go through with the sale and it was only after I paid him the money, that he took me into his garage and I saw all the trikes and quads and motorcycles. That kinda proved to me right there that he was B/Sing me about the "didn't know how to wrench" part, but I tend to take people at their word and went home a little concerned but happy. I got that old sinking feeling after I started to work on it. When I went to adjust the valves, I found that they were WAY out of spec - and it would have been impossible for them to have worked themselves out that way without a little "external", human help. I also adjusted the timing chain slack. Both of those adjustments eliminated the valve tap - but - I soon realized that the Tapping was actually hiding a deeper "death rattle" rod knock. Is it possible that the guy wasn't B/Sing me - sure - but it seems a little too suspicious, and I might have paid alot less or given it a pass on purchase if I knew the truth. So I'll leave you to your own conclusions, but I would go over that 200 with a fine tooth comb. Also, how did you find the guys attitude at East Coast ATV?. The reason I ask is I've been up there a few times for parts, usually for a resto and ironically I bought my low hour '82R motor from them, and it just seemed to me they were extremely condecending. I've heard that from alot of people in the past that had dealings with them and we all came to the conclusion that unless you were there to hop up a racing quad, they didn't want anything to do with you, especially rebuilding or restoring a trike. I was just wondering if things had changed. I havn't been up there since they were in Tromburesville and running out of a huge barn behind Daves house.

I must have missed your reply months ago. That't too bad about your 200s. I hope it's going good now. My 200 needed a new carb but I can't complain for $400. He definetly works on stuff. He is always selling fixer uppers. He had a nice 70 Chevelle in the garage. I thought the guy up at East Coast was a real A- hole. Not to me but I saw the way he treated an employee.

I have an '82 too. You will love it. I am currently restoring mine to a racer. The old air cooled 250's are my favorite. Good luck.

I just recently had the great displeasure of dealing with them at EAST COAST ATV, i WAS AND STILL ARE VERY UNHAPPY WITH THEM, I totally agree very condencending individuals there to say the least.I will go to Ebay or guys from the board before ever doing bis with them again, as to be honest pricing there isnt the best either IMO.
