View Full Version : Assembling The Diff!!

OK, I'm trying to put my rear end back together right now.
This is for a YTM200E, I am putting a YTM225DX diff on it.
I think it should work if I just change the backing plate since the 200e has the bearing carrier "build in" to the backing plate.

Well, I got the plate on and everything lined up and the surfaces were flush. I spun the pinion gear with my hand and it spun freely. Then I tightened the bolts down in a criss cross pattern and now I can't spin the pinion by hand anymore (without really reefing on it).....Is this right?

When I got the 225 diff from Howdy, he had dissasembled it to make sure all of the gears were intact and then reassembled it with the backing plate on. When I recieved it, I could not spin the pinion gear by hand. But as soon as I loosened the bolts off, I could spin the pinion easily.

When I took the diff off this bike, I'm pretty sure that I could spin the pinion by hand with the backing plate on and the bolts in, but I cant quite remember.

So...does anyone know if I'm assembling it right?

I can take pics if needed.
