I went for a nice ride on my 85 250r today (like 20-25 mins tops) and when i got home, there were some oil spots coming from the crankcase breather tube. So i went ahead and pulled the oil check bolt, and oil came gushing out of it. As far as i know, the oil should weep out of that hole if its at the right level. The oil was a dark gray/blackish color. I drained it all out, and there was about 2 quarts, which seems really high to me. It was still that nasty dark gray/black color. It had the viscosity of hot oil, but it just didnt seem right. Is this just because it hasnt been changed before, or is something leaking down into the tranny?
The coolant level is empty in the overflow tank, but there was never any in there to begin with because it doesnt have a cap. I have a new bottle and cap on the way. The coolant level in the rads is right where it should be. No gas comes out of the carb overflow tube, and i just rebuilt it today with all new jets/gaskets/etc.
I refilled the tranny until oil wept out of that little check hole, then i plugged it up and was good to go. I went for a small ride around the block and nothing was coming out of the breather tube.
Any ideas on what could be my problem here, or it was just way overdue on an oil change, or the previous owner put too much oil in there???
Thanks for your help,
Mike
