I need help guys. Ok so I finally finshed the x atabot 3am friday night. Slept o my freinds couch. Got up at 8 to load the trailer for the 3 bolck trip to the summiot track. I decided to ride it out his back yard to "test it". Engogh back round I think"

Anyway start it runs great. I put 18's on it for the track turf tamers that were "race cut" and a 32 sprocket and a 13 front. Anyway It is impossible to start this thing in first gear. Completely impossible. As soon as you let the cluch out The front wheel is up and I mean up. Like 45 degree angle. I can start in second ok but Im not shure what to do I wanted to run it at summit but being as I could not control a 1st gear launch I figured for everyone elses safty and my own I would need to practice with it awhile. If you gass it too much in any gear 1st through 3rd here comes the 45 degree angle again. What the heck Is my gearing way off. what should I use? I got my gears from a guy who flat tracked in th 80's he also sent me a lighted crank Do you think this will help. I really wanted to run it this weekend but once again it didnt happen. also I found out that this engine only runs good on 92+ gas anything less and it sputters like crazy.

What was your original gearing?

12/40 is stock for the 83-85 200x. that rear sprocket your running is waay small imo. It might help to turn your idle down a bit and don't let the clutch fly either at take off.

if anything go down in the rear and up in the front. The way you have it set up it should loose bottom end punch compared to stock gearing. Then you put 18" tires on the rear which messed it up. try a 14 tooth in front and you should be able to control it better.

yea, gearing is a funny thing. You gotta sacrifice one thing for another... Its either quicker acceleration or more top end. I never quite fully understood how it goes... up in front, down in back, bigger or smaller tires... I wish someone could explain this to me someday.

Bigger front+Smaller back= more top end, less bottom end

Smaller front+larger rear= More bottom end, less top end

Smaller tires= same as smaller front sproket

Larger tries= same as bigger front sproket

Going up a tooth in the front= about the same as going down 3 teeth in the rear

Going down in the front a tooth= about the same as adding 3 teeth in the rear

Tires= 2-3 inches up will cause going up a tooth in front and vice versa

What type of racing are you going to be doing? If its flat track then just use 3rd and 4th.

For what purpose are you gearing so high? TimJr's 200x has stock gearing and it never got past 4th gear on the track at Summit, and this is with 18 tires.
