How long can you ride a liquid 2 stroke at a time? I have a buddy that told me not to ride my Z more than 30 minutes or so at a time:wondering . I have followed that advice because I did not know any better. But recently all the talk of the Baja has got me wondering.

A little help? (please don't laugh at my question:rolleyes: )

Yup, just run her..... Unless you have an impellar problem on your Z you will be fine.

Thats the only possible reason for not riding her:wondering .

I know kintore goes for hours at a time

Really the only thing i've ever been told about 2-strokes is to not hold them wide-open for longer than 5 seconds in any gear. Pretty much that equals no 5th gear blasts down the road wide open for miles.
I don't know if theres any truth to that, but i've never blown one up and i've been riding them for 15 years. Chances are as long as the bike is jetted properly it will run forever with no issues. But you can't teach an old dog new tricks!

lol my 2nd 2 stroke,'84 cr 80, i held her for too long and melted the rotor to damn near nothing!!! Aluminum splatered all over the magneto compartment!!!! lmao
that was like 9 years ago

But yeah driver till she starts acting up a little (edge of over heating) and b sure to use antifreeze at the proper ratio, antifreeze cools alot better than just water!!!!

I know I've held my 250r wide open for long periods of time (on the beach or long hill climbs)without melting a piston or over heating it.. As long as its setup right and the engine is in good shape you shouldnt have any problems.

Ive ran mine for countless hours, but not WOT. My piston is 20 years old and never been changed, and I know this thing has alot of hours. I mean alot. I run in the summer, 3 hours a day generally. Summer is 60 days, so lets say around 180 just in the summer, not including every day after school pretty well in the fall, spring in summer for a hour or 2. I ride ALOT and never had a problem.

Dont pin her and she will last for along time.:w00t:

Its a race bike, two stroke at that, its meant to be ridden hard. I've had mine wide open through the gears all day in soft wet sand and never had an issue whatsoever. As long as your bike is setup right and in good nick you won't have a problem.

I'd stop taking advice from your friend too.

Had a kid ask me about a liquid 250R on msn earlier today. It was selling for 900 but he wouldn't buy it, all his friends told him about how two strokes always fry piston rings. Word of mouth amoung the uninformed is gospel lately.

I was told when I first bought my Z that it was common to have to change the rings after 10-15 hours or riding. I kinda had a feeling that was BS, but I had never owned a 2 stroke. Thanks to you guys I will be having even more fun on my Z not worrying about riding it to long at a time. Man I feel like a tool for not knowing.
