Can a higher octane gas make your bike run hotter? I ask this because my 4 stroke used to have a nice tan color on the spark plug. Well then I switched from 89 to 94 oct on a regular compression piston (9:1 I think?) and my plug is very white. Its the only reason I can think of that could make my plug white because I havent messed with any airflow. Or could my jets possibly be clogged?

I'de say run a hotter plug then see what happense

My current plug is a NGK DPR8EA-9. What would be a hotter plug?

Its probably more due to changes in temperature than a higher octane rating which has little to do with it. If its running a lot whiter DO NOT use a hotter plug! YOu use a colder plug. The "8" in the plug number is the heat range. DPR9EA would be the next colder. Foir NGK plugs, the lower the number, the hotter the plug. Chanpion is the opposite.

A lot of people change jetting for winter temps, but a plug heat range change can often correct a minor problem.

I agree with Tim. When the weather changes so does your air/fuel mix.

Well see Tim, this is why I am puzzled. I jetted the bike during December in 35 degree weather. All was fine. And now yesterday when it was 60 I decided to check my plug. Pretty white all the way down and black around the threads.

So if you are running rich, you could run a hotter plug, and if you are running lean you can run a cooler plug. Sounds like you can adjust your jetting just by changing plugs.
