Hey all, I've been browsing this site for a couple months now, & I got the trike fever- I just got a 250SX(picking it up on Sunday) & registered myself on tww. I already wanna start modding. 1st thing I want to do is get a 200x front end set up- Is this a fairly cut&dry process, once I get the parts? This is my 1st trike(I'm an avid quadder & two wheeler w/ many machines). the rear has smaller, aftermarket mx type tires & wheels, which are going to be switched for some more mud oriented ones, I ride a lot of muddy trails. I like my bikes on the quiet side, & I'm wondering just how quiet the Supertrapp race series exhaust can be w/ the least discs(The less discs, the quieter, right?)w/out sacrificing power- thanks for any suggestions in advance, & THIS SITE ROCKS!-TGG.

Good deal. Have fun and wear safety equipment. Keep the sport alive!
As for supertrapp, never had one but someone else will chime in I am sure.

Supertrapps are awesome. I find that when you have around 3 discs on it, it feels like it has more power, and then when you go up to 12 discs it has a tiny bit more speed and less get-up-and-go. SX's are very nice machines! Congrats.

When you get it.. go over the whole thing.. i know you want to ride it right away.. we all do.. loll.. but do youself a favor and take a few minutes to checdk the diff oil and the tranny oil.... air filter.. axle and swingarm bearings.. etc...
SX's are awsome !!!..

Its real straight forward. Find a complete 200X front end and swap it out.
Note: You will need to cut the SX stop off and add new stops for the X front end.
Do a little searching on this topic and you'll find plenty of info.
BTW, I have a Supertrapp and while I've never ran less than 8 discs I can tell you that going from 14 to 8 quiets it down considerably.
Welcome.

very cool, cant wait to see some pics. But yeah out of all the aftermarket exhausts, if you can find a supertrapp, that will be the quietest with propper tuning. Or for obnoxiously loud, a bassani does quite nicely. And good luck with the front end, seems like more and more of us do it these days.

oh Boy, I got shafted- I don't suppose anyone remembers the '85 SX on Ebay a couple weeks ago, the pics were taken at a shop looking setup, w/ a bunch of other quads around it? Well, that was the one I won(900$), the reason I jumped on it was it was about an hour from my house & it seemed to be a fairly decent bike, for 20 years old. When I got there, it was a residence, w/ a small yard & a garage- I got the bike out & rode it @ alittle, only got 'er into 2nd gear- it was a little rougher than it appeared on Ebay, but I figured I was in for a little work, so I took it(Plus, I had won the auction. When I got it home & really took a good look at it, there were more than just a few problems- I checked the fluids @ took 'er out for a ride, & there was NO 3rd gear. I've tried to contact the guy, but he won't answer my calls, & I cannot file a dispute w/ Ebay until 2/25, they tell me to contact the seller *Edited**Edited* I file, but he's not returing calls. CRAP,He also was a big, mean looking dufuss kinda guy, & I'm not the kind to go 'fight it out', I'm not sure whether to try & get all the $$ back, or part of it, so I can pull the motor & have a buddy fix the trans. I really like it, it's gor gobs of power, reverse, shaft, etc. What do you guys think I should do?

Assess the damage carefully... How's the rear end of things ? rear diff.. hubs.. axle etc.. ?
Does it skip 3rd and go into 4th adn 5th ?
Does the motor smoke ? electric start work ? plastics cracked ? etc...

Was the tranny problem mentioned on the e-bay auction?
If he does not answer his phone.. send him an e-mail thru e-bay advising of the problems.. and let him know you will leave negative feedback unless he makes some kind of amendment..

The rear's fine, hubs good, plastics were mentioned in auction as cracked- not a big deal. The motor doesn't smoke(surprise, surprise) & it shifts thru all gears fine except third. It's a powerful little machine, & I'd like to keep it & get the trans problemfixed- Oh, the electric start- I got it to click(new batt), & then it blew the fuse, so there's wiring issues as well. The motor looks like cake to remove, I guess I wait till I hear from the guy before I do anything.

definatly wait to remove the motor. Get a hold of this guy (maybe go to a friends house and call, he might have caller ID) and have him give you some money back. Did the auction say "Shifts well through all gears"?

No, it didn't say it shifted well thru all the gears, the only way he could possibly not admit guilt is that he said it was in "great shape for it's age", he also stated-"well maintained". Man, I'm really falling for this trike- I'll try calling from a different # & see if he answers. Thanks a TON, you guys are really supportive-TGG...............

All you can do is keep trying. I got my SX for $700 (check the "before" pics from the "SX Project" link in my sig. It only had cosmetic problems.. everything mechanical worked awesome. They are awesome bikes!! You'll soon want bigger bikes, though. I started with my dads 200ES Big Red and then wanted some more power, so I bought my 250SX and fixed it up.. the first trike I ever owned. Then I bought a 350X to fix up, and now I have a 250R! I bought the SX, fixed it up, rode it for about a year until I decided I wanted more power and then bought 2 more trikes within a two-week span. Its a disease!! You'll soon be seeing deals all over and saying "Oh man! I can't pass that up!!" and then going to get it..

When I finally get a camera & figure out how to use it, I'll post some pics, Ride Red, as far as the trans & the bum who ripped me off, well still no word from him, & I can't reg. a complaint till 2/25, so I put the trike out of site, so I won't bellyache over it till then- If it's within sight, I just can't let it sit, I wanna tinker w/ it, ya know?

I'd be steaming mad! The bad part about it is you leave him a negative FB on ebay he will do the same... I would put the trike back on the trailer and go back to the dudes house... CAMP out if you have to. If the tranny is messed up that isn't an easy fix. There's alot more involved than tinkering with it!) I would demand my money back... but if your attached to it and want to keep it... Demand some of your money back at least! If it were me the cops would be showing up for sure!!!
One thing I have learned (along with alot of other things on this board) is Don't buy a complete machine off ebay... you really take a chance of something like this happining. Especially with a 20+ year old trike I would never pay for anything that I have not gone over and checked out completely.. Think about it? That's asking for trouble.
Also If i were you I would keep it stock and ride it like what it was meant for. MUD!!! lol. the 200x front end has it's benifits with the disk brake but It's too lite. (IMO) I just picked up a nice one a couple weeks back and was contemplating doing the swap. But after riding it and finding out it wheelies just fine the way it is. I decided to keep it the way it is. ;)

Hey, that's cool, the real gazoo! yeah, I'm still leaving messages w/ this dufus, & I'm pretty sure on the 25th, when I can register a complaint about this guy that Ebay has a way of blocking him sending neg. FB on me. I know splitting the cases is no easy job, & might get expensive, so I'm looking @ for an entire motor(haven't posted here yet, but I will)- I've seen a few online, but I'll be sure to be thorough in checking them out, if I go that route- And yes, what I'm going to try & do w/ this guy is get at least 1/2 my $$$ back, if I hear from him, or maybe I'll get a couple of my larger buddies to come out to his place w/ me & "talk". He's a big stupid looking Jethro, who seemed like he'd start swinging fists, so I ain't going up there alone. I'll let you guys know what transpires, & thanks for your help, TGG...................
