just stating an obvious answers on the frame and plastic color. if i had to guess i would say the frame is the early tri-z model with switched plastics.
the reason i say this is my yellow Z has an 86 frame. does this make it an 86 tri-z?? beats me!!! by all standards probably not. so i really thing someone just wanted black plastic on a yellow frame. i dont know how to attacth pics not from my computer but if someone could attatch that black Z with the yellow frame in the sand. there is a prime example. i love that pic lol

The headlight guard is supposed to be black. The 85s came with yellow plastic/frame. 85 1/2 came with black plastic/red frame. 86 was red frame/white plastic with some red pieces. The yellow and black does look sweet, but Yamaha never produced with with that color scheme.
this is the color scheme i did mine.not factory for that year but i like it this way.there was just too much yellow on the bike the first model year for me to like.the black really breaks up the yellow good
