Well, I though I would start a thread about this, instead of putting all my crap in differant threads.

My plans for this is to make it look factory. Everthing will be painted professionally. New decals, new wiring, better tires (likely just get good used ones). I have to figure out why the motor has no spark, so once I get it running, if it smokes, it will be rebuilt. I think the head is aluminum, so I will polish that, The cases and cylinder will be painted as well.

This is how it started out:

Stripped down:

After grinding rust and sanding:

Black parts painted:

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c48/coryv_76/framepainted.jpg

As soon as our other body guy gets back from school (about 4 or 5 weeks now) he will be helping with the bodywork and painting on the tank and fenders.

Does anyone know the exact PPG paint code for the "Mighty Green" color? I found on one site that it was G-31, but I looked it up today in the computer at work and PPG doesnt use that code. I'm going to phone PPG tomorrow and see if they can help me.

that will be a cool machine to restore. looking good. what kind of paint are you using?

Yamahauler

PPG is the paint. I brought home a bunch of sample colors today trying to find an exact match. Theres none in this book, so I have to flip through the big one.
We phoned PPG Canada with that paint code I had, they didnt have any record of it.

If any one has a:
-Footpeg assembly
-metal front fender
-Good used tires
-brake drum (dont know if mine is salvagable)
-kill switch
-stock exhaust system

PM me.

I'm getting the axle zinc coated, (i think thats how it was from factory, looks that way) My splines on either my hubs, or axle are worn out, the tire has a bit of play back and forth when it sits on the axle.

She wasnt too happy when I tried to sneak it downstairs and she caught me  But she let me anyways since there was nothing in the basement room anyway.

I didnt even have to steal coathangers from her, those ones stay in the paint booth all the time at the shop;)

Thats one sweet 90...all original, I like that...I have some questions for you though...

On your rear fenders, what color is the "90" in the "ATC90" lettering?
On mine its white, and now that I look closer at it, it looks like it was purple but faded.
Oh, and I guess my rear grab bar is wrong too...Whats the tail light look like?
Were the seats the same from 70-74?
Thats all the questions I can think of. Thanks

taillight is like 1/2 inch by 5 inches, the thin model,
not sure on the seat, mines the stock one, NO tears or rips!

Yamahauler

Do you think they would be yellow and purple decals for the green 73?
Right now, mine are yellow and white, but it looks as though they may of been purple, but the purple rubbed off.

what is this hole for on the bearing carrier?
I had a home-made hitch bolted on that point, just wondering what its actually for.
BTW, that hitch will be going on ebay soon.

If one fades I would think they all fade, thats the link to the factory brochure and it says right at the top
"ATC90" fender logos are now Yellow and Purple
Only two colours: Tahitan Red/Yellow, and Mighty Green/Yellow .

Yamahauler
02-20-2006, 02:37 AM
Yea, I checked the parts catalouge, and theres only one choice for colors of those decals.
Its weird though, most of the red ones Ive seen have the yellow and purple and the purple isnt faded????

dufrain
02-20-2006, 02:43 AM
That is weird,Unless you are trying to go all original white, would look better to me but You would probably have to get someone to make them for you.It might look good without them, about all other years dont have any there. Its a cool trike either way.,I like the old ones.I had to watch Diamonds are forever the other day to see James bond try to ride one.

I got a order of parts today from service honda, New taillight, cables, brake lever.

I cleaned the front tire up and it came out very very nice, I think I'm going to use them for now, until I can find a better set.

I had a guy match the paint and he came back with a code for a PPG paint called "Sunny Green" We'll mix some up and spray a card and see how it matches.

Ive ordered decals from Yamatopdog, a grab bar, some new footpegs, foot peg rubbers, fender protectors, grommets, and axle caps (last 4 things were VERY expensive!!) As soon as I get the grab bar, I'm sending some things off to get re-chromed.

I sandblasted the front fender and the body shop guy is supposed to be straightening it up and getting it ready for paint. Its pretty bent up.

Found out my coil is faulty, still looking for a replacement, then I can get this motor running and see if it needs to be rebuilt.

Thats all so far.................................

You can still get the coils from honda, I think around $120 though. An nos coil comes with the condenser on it already and you would need to get the points. Keep an eye on ebay for the wiring, I bought a nos harness for $6.50. I got my taillight off ebay, nos. The parts are still around. Don't forget the kill switch has "off-on-off" on it, the earlier switches were only 2 position switches. Good hunting.

If you find a nice Off-On only setup. let me know. Mine on my 1970 US90 is pretty rusty.

Looking good man! What are you doing with the old fender protectors?

Bruce

There is only one old fender protector left (the other is just a piece of foam) It is pretty rough, it has 4 bolts through it so it probably crushed a bit. Were you interested in it? How are the tires on yours?

Im going down tonite to sandblast the brake drum, Its pretty bad. I hope it doesnt need to be replaced.

Yamahauler
03-23-2006, 07:43 PM
I sandblasted the drum, would you guys use that? The mechanic said he wouldnt put it on the lathe because its too thin. He said it will polish itself up when I use the brakes a bit.

I dont know, what do ya think?

It looks okay, it should be fine. You may eat a set of pads, but you ought to be allright.

Put it on the lath and Run a crosshatch Pattern over it with some emory cloth, keeps it from glazing Up quick...
