Ok I have a 1985 250sx that i would like to upgrade. I have a 1986 200x roller with a good front end on it that I am thinking about swaping onto the sx. I also have 3 sets of front forks and a set of triple trees for a 85 250r. And I have 6 front tires and hubs for the x' and r's. I have all the master cylinders brake lines calipers everything needed. But i would like to know has anyone done the 86-87 200x front end conversion or the 85-86 250r front end conversion. Any thoughts on which one will be better. I know the 250r is a lot longer and bigger around. But I think that it would give added ground clearance and probably a smoother ride as well. I will also be doing the 300ex carb mod at the same time. And I will be doing a 450r exhaust mod to it at that time as well. Has anyone done any or all of this that can give me some advice? Also I read somewhere that the 250r (85-86) triple trees you dont have to grind off the stops. Any truth to this? Also does anyone know if the TRX250, TRX300 (2wd), Or any other shaft drive rear end that may have shorter gears that will bolt up to the old sx?

here is some pics of mine. These came of the 250r, but not sure of the exact year. very pleased with how it came out and the ride.

you guys are crazy... change motor oil, gear oil, and clean the air filter, that is all you really need to do to the 250sx.

the 200x front end seems to be more common. search for a user named madmax. he had a real trick 250sx.

I always keep an eye on these 250sx threads since my big red is basically the same.

I did the 200x as you can see. No matter what you go with anything is better than stock.

I went with the 350x carb which is 31mm I believe and the 300ex is 32mm? Either way it will fit on, the only issue is how does the 300ex choke work? On the 350x there is a lever you push up to choke it (but the problem is, is that the air intake is in the way so it is harder to keep the choke on).

And chris, When I come down to ride, you can take a ride on the SX-X. After that you wont want to do just an oil change.

For shorter gears, you could bolt up a Big Red Gearbox. Not sure why you'd want to do this, but you'll notice a huge torque increase at the rear wheels if you do. You'll top out at about 35 MPH though (with 20" tires) I just swapped an SX rear end on my Big Red to make it have taller gears.

Thanks Conig (and just for the record I still have it :D )

old honda dealr: I cant help with any 250R front end mods ('cept my SX does have a R front fender) but I say its your SX so do anything you want. My suggestion would be to give the rear suspension a change and get a Works shock. That is a huge difference!

Yeah I used a WORKS. You used a progressive shock right Mad Max?

Yep, I got Works on the back and Progressives on the front.

Best 250sx mods.
1. Buy new tires- put them on 250sx.
2. Buy 200x rolling chassis.
3. Buy 200s engine.
4. Buy nice new components for 200x frame - exhaust, filters, jets, brakes, decals, fenders, controls.
5. Get rest of 200x parts.
6. Add parts to project.
7. Swap new tires to your new setup.

8. Sell remaining parts.
- 250sx w/o tires

It is okay to mod a 250 and it is okay to ride a 250. But It should be illegal to:
1. Claim that your 250 is fast.
2. Think that because your 250 can beat a 300ex that it is a better bike.
3. Brag about a 250sx' performance.
4. Talk about changing gears on a 250sx.
5. Jump your 250sx.

I dont see a plus side to putting a 200s engine in a 200x frame. Just so you can have a slower auto tranny fully suspended bike just like the 250sx except without reverse, or electric start? And with less power? What are the upsides?

The SXs deserve alot more credit than they are given. Personally if my 250 beats a 300ex, I would think it would be better. Isnt that the way it usually is :wondering

If you're sick of your 250SX, ship it over to Homer so I can buy it! I'll buy it without tires on it. Got any pictures of it? I'm serious...

I have a trashed 87 200x I bought just to put the front end on one of my sxs. From the ones I have seen done, it will be a killer upgrade.

Lol, i have 3 250sx and I only like the stock one. The 350x one thats modded is actually exactly what 250sxwheeliepop is trying to build. It had some things on there that were pretty neat but its just too small. Things i have for my 250sx
-UNI filter (mine was powder at the bottom of the box)
-cobra (not because I wanted one but because I needed it)
-white plastics (front, tank, rear)
-red honda wing stickers
-red fork boots
-HAD 350x headlight
-HAD works shock. Sold to idiot local for large sums of money and a good dash.

I just wanted to make the thing look decent. I never really cared about how fast it went because I have an rm500 and my dad has a 350x so i never considered it. It hasn't been jumped. It has: taken me and friends to the lake, wheelied down the runway, taken me 50 miles down the beach, 15 back in the tundra, 30 miles to a lake. But.. I dislike it because its loud. And honestly I like the 110 just sooo much better. Do you have any relatives that work at Northern Air Cargo?? Free shipping. I've had offers of 1400 cash here though so I'll probably get rid of it here.

Thanks. The front is a 24x8.5x11 Ohtsu which came from a Honda dealership.
The rears are 20x11x8 Namco's (basically a Taiwan knock-off of a Holeshot) which came from Dennis Kirk.
