ahhh another CT folk.
And how did you see that listing Wed. night for the BN? on the internet? I called that dude on Thursday AM and he was bumming hardcore. The guy you bought that stuff from was so bummed and said that the phone has been ringing off the hook. He told me that he was an idiot for letting it go at that price .......I agreed with him and I said goodbye to him on the phone.
Anyway good score lets hook up and ride or something.

I was thinkin....$500 for the Trike, $150 for a crank, $125 piston/rings/gasket kit, $150 sleeve & bore. All said, you should have about $1000 in it when you are up and running. I would take the mint rad shroud, toss it up on Ebay, but a pair of Maiers and use the rest to offset the engine costs! For engine parts, give Magoo over at kawieriders a shout. He can help ya out for sure.

i just happened to search the bargain news and saw them.i called him that night and no answer.i called him the next day 2 times and was lucky enough to be the one who got to him first.he agreed to sell it for $500 before i even went to look at it.he was bummed and admitted he probably should have asked more for it.he was honest and sold it to me for what he said he would.its going to sit in my garage until i have time to do anything with it.probably not for a long time,i have 4 other tecates i need to finish first.im think 300 kit on this or something big.it has the 86 kx250 motor and not the kxt motor.but for $500,i couldnt let it pass.

The Maier tank shrouds are all gone as well, finding a set of those is even getting difficult these days

You can't get Maier shrouds for 86/87 Tecates can you????

no,the maier shrouds have been discontinued for years.fortunately i have a pair of them.if and when i do decide to sell an 86,the maier shrouds will be going on it.i will be keeping the oem ones for another 86 tecate.

I was under the impression that 86 tecate motors were the same as the KX motors? Whats the difference?

the stator and flywheel because of the lighting and the cylinder is probably ported differently.thats probably about it but there may be other subtle differences.

86/87 KXT motors are detuned 86 KX motors. different exhaust pipe and inlet manifolds, different size carby, possible port timing differences and possibly less compression. Apart from that the motors a basically the same, Engine numbers follow on from each other and parts are interchangable.
Great engine swap potential. Someone on the site has a KX 250 motor in his 86 Tecate, hopefully he can give us all a bit more info.....

i forget who it is too, maybe oldhondadealer? But he put a newer model KX motor in it. How can you tell the difference in the 86 motors? I believe my TT T3's engine has a number on the case that starts with KX, so does that mean its the KX motor and not the KXT?

The KXT motor uses the same cases as a KX motor, like i said its a detuned KX motor with some different bits on it. The numbers match up, The KXT motors are on par with the batch numbers found on a KX

thanks for clearing that up. Another question though, how can you tell the difference between a KX cylinder and a KXT one or is it not possible unless you measure the ports?
