Actually I think that would be great for anyones collection. I would also keep it the way it is kinda like a reminder to everyone what happened to our beloved trikes. But maybe that's just me.

I would get it if it runs and the price is right. you rerally don't see too many of those around anymore.

Id be all about those Kenda Nomads on the back!!

I use to have a 350x with the Astro conversion, it was a real good woods bike!

I don't think he so much "chose" those fenders, that was just the most common kit out there.

Aussie....I have said what Chris 200x said....It was a piece of history in that era...If I found one like that I would restore it as the conversion kit and proudly display it with its evolutionary partners.

I would buy that in a heartbeat! How cool would it be to have a trike, a trike/quad conversion, and then get an 87-88 trx250r and have the complete evolution of the 250r.

Go for it!:w00t:

heres a tri-z thats been jacked up with one of the conversions. its listed for $1800.00. i think that if they had gone with a black front fender it would look a lot better.

If I could ever find one for a Z in my price range I would jump on it. I don't think I would put it on my current Z, but I would pick up another Z and do the conversion. Like you said if that fender was black and the frame matched, that thing would look pretty good.

I read that Maier made the plastic's for the Astro kit, what would be the chances of getting them to make some new ones,if its getting fixed i want to do it right.

those fenders look just like the ones on a lt250r quadracer, well they must be almost the same mold. it looks like if you just cut up a front quadracer front fender it will fit right up. just cut it short to follow the frame, and cut some slots in it for air flow.

They were custom made by Maier for the Astro kits, and while they are based on the LT plastic, they are custom fit to the specific 3 wheeler being converted. They bolt right into the same holes the radiator shrouds bolted to. While teh appearance is similar, the LT plastics are quite a bit different where and how they mount.

Bring the trike back to life Tony. Don't let it live another moment as some sort of fankenquad. Sounds like there might be a few people interested in the quad font end so you could sell that and use the proceeds to help you with the resto job.
you might even get a buyer for the 250R down my way in Wodonga, It would make a nice shed buddy to my KXT...... Hint hint.

I know where there is an '86 frame with forks and swinger so might be easy just to do a frame swap and store the converted frame for a later date.

Well did he buy it or not? Is it going to be a trike or a conversion for the rest of it's life? enquiring minds want to know.

Honestly I never knew there were conversion kits to turn a trike to a quad. Guess that's cause I am new to the whole 3 wheeler thing.

Guess I aughta put a picture of my new found toy in my signature or something

Im going to call the guy today and go and have another look in the daylight and get some pics with the rear fender and seat on,he is taking $2k AU which is way too dear he did start at 2.5k AU,funny thing as we walked to the rat infested garage to look at it the other night i kicked my foot on a stock 250r pipe in the middle of the yard so he may have more items lurking around...

Maaate, I don't think you could afford it eh, I't have to be one of about 5 in the whole of Australia I reckon! SDG (Scoobie Doo Giggles)

Anyway I think we should hook up for a ride one weekend, givus a couple of weeks notice and I'll see if I can drag my sorry but up your way!

they made them kits at the same time they made trx250r's. they copied a 86 suzuki quadracer thats why it has suzuki plastic.

i helped a local shop strip one for parts that the guy raced motocross with. he biult it in 88 so he could still race and would not have to buy a new bike

Nothing on the Astro kit is Suzuki, or interchangeable with Suzuki. As I metioned before, the plastic looks like Suzuki, but is not interchangeable.

i meant they copied the suzuki stuff they did not use original suzuki parts. the front hubs would interchange they just looked a slite bit different. we checked that out when we stripped the 86 atc conversion. the hood was identical to a Maier lt250 one.

the astro kits used the same bolt pattern front wheels as a lt250 also.

we sold the frame to a guy and he put the from end on a 85 350x since the 250r frame was wasted. i sold him a pair of 88 suzuki lt250 front calipers since the astro kit ones were locked up. they fit rite on with no mods

I noticed how the front fenders blended into the radiator shrouds, quite a neat job of it but very Suzuki looking for sure. Its a shame to have an '86 left like that,im very temped to make it new again !
