For some of you guys out there that know a lot about the ATC70's:

I have my '82 model that I've had since it was new. I need to replace the spring in the starter. Can you get just the spring or do I need to find a new rope starter assembly?

I also need a tire and I'm wondering if you can still get the Ohtsu "SP Wamuless" OEM tires new? I know there's a cheng-shin tire too, but I'd like the Ohtsu. two of my OEM tires (on there it's whole life) are in great condition. one of the rears completely dry-rotted to where the side wall has detached from the tread. It's been stored out of the weather for years and it's strange one tire would be completely destroyed and the other 2 are fine.

Last question. Is there any company out there that makes OEM size aluminum rims? I believe they are 7". I know some people do run 8" rims.

Thanks.

Jeb, yes you can replace just the spring. A good website for parts is beatrice cycle\ dr.atv.com. They have alot of parts for the 70. Sorry I can't help you about the wheels or tires but try having your local honda dealer do a search for the parts and see what they come up with. If no luck there try calling service honda or on the internet, bikebandit.com and see what they can do for wheels and tires. I believe most people run 8" rims and aftermarket low profile tires because that is what is available. Good luck and good parts hunting and please post pics of your 70.

You can just replace the spring, but it makes it alot easier if you at least replace the rope. The entire assembly goes together faster and with less headache with a new rope, I just buy a nylon cord from the local hardware store, works fine or you can buy a oem one. The point is start with a new longer rope, so once you have it back together you can cut the excess off giving you the proper spring tension.

Thanks Vealmonkey and danteross77! :beer Thanks for the websites and advice. I'll have more questions I'm sure.

I'll get some pics when I can. My siblings and I got the little jewel for Christmas in '82. It had been in storage since the last couple years of the 1980's and all of the 1990's. I've been meaning to get her running again for the past 5 years.

Oh, yeah, where can i get an original factory service manual? I've seen CD copies on ebay. but would prefer the original manual in print form and would prefer it over Haynes or the others like that.

Jeb, It's nice to get it on CD as well. You can print the manual out on paper and if you ever get a page dirty you can reprint it. I did this to my Polaris Manual and it has saved me many of times.

Hays <---spelling Makes a decent manual for it. Go to www.repaiormanual.com and you should be able to find it there for cheep. As far as the rims. I have 2 Aluminums rims and one steel on my 90. they are all 8" if you find a source for the aluminum rims let me know.

The original tires are still available from Honda for around $35. The low profile tire for 8" rims, in my opinion, ride way too stiffly. Makes the fillings fall out of your teeth.

when i bought my son's 70 bout a year ago it needed rear tires. i thought the otshu's were discontinued. but a local honda dealer had them in stock for 35.00 dollars apiece if i remember correctly.

I went with 8 inch douglas black labels, 6 inches wide. Mounted Nankang 16 x 6.5 x 8 knobbies on them, and really like the results. I like the look of a taller rim on a 70.
