Will this work for Honda 1985 250R? The guy says it will but skeptical because another guy sells them specifically for 1985 model.
I saw one for a 1986 model and was told 1985 and 1986 models will not interchange.

I thought so. This guy is assuring me it will work for 1985 model.
There is another one made by Rad that looks more like I need and is 15.00 more. So I will snag that one. Thanks!

The 85 carrier is just the one year. Honda improved on it in 86 to offer easier chain ajustment. So unlees you change over to a 86 swingarm be sure to buy a 85 carrier.

I thought it would be something like that! Thanks again!

I always thought it was just the 85 carrier needs 85 axle, thus 86 carrier needed 86+ axle? And that being said either carrier would fit either swinger, right?

That makes sense. Dennis kirk has one that is for an 1985 R and uses the holes with round bar to adjust.

i have a lonastar billut carrier in my 85 atc 250r. it has the holes like the 86-89 billut carriers.

the 85 carriers the diameter of the part that slides into the swingarm is smaller. so you dont get as much chain adjustment. thats why the 86's and newer ones are different. bigger diameter = more adjustment

+ you can use a 86-89 axle in a 85 atc but not the other way around.

Finished taking rear axle out and the bearing on sprocket side is gone.
Only thing left was the inner bearing sleeve around the axle.
Everything else was ground up metal.
The carrier is wasted.
The good thing is, the sprockets, chain, swingarm and axle are in great shape so I can deal with this.
I just ordered one of these made by RAD, double wide bearings, grease zerk, assembled ready to go. One year warranty. Has a hole in side so you can put a bar through spocket for chain adjustment.

I would have purchased the LSR brand, but I have to watch what I spend.
Again, thanks for all the help so far on this. In about a week and a half, I am getting new plastic and minor parts to complete. Will post before and after pics.
Anyone know where I can get the red white and blue honda wing decals that go on the radiator scoops?

the lonstar one i have has the holes in it like a 86style one. they are parallel with the sprocket.

Well I got carrier today after ordering Monday night.
It fit like a champ and seems really good quality and fit.
I did have to do a little light sanding on axle because of slight ridge where old bearings where. Had a little galling.
All I have to do is tighten axle nut.
I guess the billet carrier instructions says to tighten to 40 lbs.
How the hell am I going to judge that? I guess snug down and a slap!
Now, quest to get big ass wrench!
