I have a few more questions on 85 250R for the pros here.
I went to change all fluids and were all spotless from grime, rust, crud.
(Real clean gear fluid and coolant)
Someone obliviously went to effort to keep this machine maintained hence is why it probably runs pretty good.

Now, the oil mix sticker says 20:1. I want to run Maxima 929 castor.
Should I keep this ratio 20:1 per manufacture recommendations?

At 20:1 that comes out to 32 oz (quart) of oil to 5 gallons of gas?

Also being this is a stock machine, what octane is good to use?
I think manufacture says 92 minimum. Our pumps up here will pump 85, 89, 92fuel. I am at 5000 ft.

well because the sticker says 20:1 back then they were probly using motor oil but now that we have all these fancy oils for 2strokes to choose from. with the castor 926 i use to run 32:1 and that is 8oz to one gallon and 40oz to 5gallons. with the newer stuff you can run a little leaner and the oil is better for you engine. hope that helps.

1 can of oil to 5 gallons.

Ok got a liter of of 927. dump the whole liter in with 5 gallons of gas and go from there?
Liter comes out pretty close to 33 oz i think.

You dont want to be running anywhere near 20:1 with a modern, good oil.

I would think either 32:1 or 50:1 would be better. If you run it at 20:1 you will have a fogger!! Trust me on that one

Order a ratio rite from Dennis kirk or your local motorcycle place, they usually have them. Its a measuring cup for oil and has the markings for the amount of oil to add to make whatever ratio you want.Whatever oil ratio you use check the plug after riding for a while for the right color,it needs to be tan.It will take a little riding on a new plug to read it good, unless its really rich.
