I just bought a yamaha 3 wheeler for $150 bucks but i am not sure of the year or model. It is light blue, front suspension only, shaft drive, front drum/rear disk. The VIN is 24w-007238 any help identifying this would be great. Also, if anyone knows where to buy parts for this besides ebay please clue me in.
Thanks
Jeremy

Its a 1983 YTM200EK (the K stands for 1983)
Thats awesome, Ive never heard of a blue 83. Got any pics?

You can get parts from members on this board, www.denniskirk.com, www.partswarehouse.com, www.bikebandit.com

It is missing the air box and had a nylon in it's place (redneck fix) so i took it off and held my hand over the back of the carb. I got it started but it needs some lovin to be in descent shape. too bad the plastics are very faded and flaking. i will probably try to paint over them.
It has a little lever on the exhaust side of the head. Does anyone know if it is a decompression lever or something?
thanks for all the help so far

Thats a decompression lever on the head.
You can restore those plastics and make them look new, just wet sand them. It takes a long time but the results are definatly worth it.
I did it to mine, they were oxidized and painted yellow.
Stripped it all off, wet sanded forever and now they look brand new.

Search the board for "restoring plastic"

great idea except there is a lot of parts of the plastic that the blue is completely gone and you see the black primer

Orginally, the plastics are not painted.
Someone must have painted them before.
I'm going to bet its yellow plastic underneath.
You have two options.
Strip it down to bare plastics and wet sand to make the yellow shine
Strip it down to bare plastics, then prime and paint it whatever color you want, there are a few people that have had good luck painting plastic, but it will likely chip off in a year or so.

Yeah it is a Yamaha YTM 200E, the light blue plastic only came on the chain drive (regular non "E") model. The plastic is just about identical between the two models though. My Dad had a blue YTM200 that we swaped the plastic from a yellow 200E.

ill go take a closer look at it to see if i missed the yellow underneath.
another question; next to where the throttle cable goes ito the carb there is a valve or something (i don't know how to explain it) that when you take out has a spring and what looks like some kind of jet inside. bike bandit's schematics call it a starter set? any ideas? it looks like it should have a hose going to it.

I know they had blue plastics on YTM200's I didnt think they had it on the 200e

BTW, they call that bike a Yamahauler. Check the ads page on the main page, there is a good one of the yami line up

Thats the choke, there should be a cable that goes to it. The cable runs to the dash and that where your supposed to put the choke on.
I have to go now though so good luck and :welcome: to 3ww

About the carb , I would go on ebay and buy a old carb with the choke cable attached to it you can find them every once in a while very cheap . And then you would have carb parts just in case . I just got my 225 going . It had been sitting outside for years . Damn quick for a old 225 dx . I only have a total of $ 225.00 in the whole bike !! Good luck , I find those carbs to be very tricky to get right . Yes it is blue plastic paint .
