Ok, I can't say enough about how much I like this wheel! I'm running the 21" Holeshot and it makes the bike looks sooo much better. I just raised the forks up an inch to compensate for the shorter tire. No more tire rubbing on the pipe after big jumps!

As far as installing the rim, I had to do 2 things.

1) grind off 1/4" from the end of each hub post to clear the inside diameter of the rim.

2) grind off the cooling fins from the outside corner of the caliper to clear the rim.

I custom ordered it from Douglas. It took 3 months and $100 to get it!

if you custom ordered it, why did you have to do all grinding

if you custom ordered it, why did you have to do all grindingNow that's a good question!

Douglas has a custom wheel department that will make you a wheel to your specs provided it's feesible. The 4x170 front bolt pattern on the 250R is pretty dang close to the inside diameter of the rim.

Douglas will make it, but they won't gaurentee that it will work. It's not like they have a bike sitting to mock up a custom wheel when someone orders it.
So, you order the bolt pattern, diameter, and back spacing you want and make it work.

Understand?

i understand. How much was a custom wheel? i think the R of yours looks sick, but i would have a hard time grinding on the brake caliper and hub, if I paid a premium for a custom wheel. Cant wait to see the finished product

I'm gonna call on monday and order one, the caliper on my 85/86r doesn't have cooling fins on it, and if I have to I will use a 86 350x caliper. exacttly what was the specs you ordered it to?

Z1000-327 that's the part number for the wheel. First you have to call them for a custom wheel order form. They will mail it to you. Once you get it, you have 14 days to mail your payment with the form, back to them or the order is canceled.
Then it will take them a couple months to make it. 2extreme has one on order right now. I'm actually thinking of getting another one myself.

This is typical I had to do the exact same mods to my flattracker to get my 10" front rim to fit, and it is a old mitchell wheel so you know it was made right for 3 wheeler racing etc. I too need to order one of these rims, because my mitchell rim has a slight warp to it. If it takes 3 months to do sounds like I need to get with it LOL

nice short track and h-tracks, maybe if enough of us order one of those rims, they will get cheaper, I'm gonna call on monday to order mine. I have to look at my 200x to see if the caliper will be a issue with a 10" rim.

Since i've had alot of questions come up on this wheel install I got a couple detailed pictures of the mods needed.

1) ground cooling fins from caliper. Like I said, it just takes the edges.

2) ground ends of hub to clear wheel. Took off aobut 1/2" from each one.

That's it!

Is the 250R front rim offset or center? If it is offset does anyone know how much? I'm going to see if I can buy just the rim I need and drill it myself since there seems to be a long waiting period to get the one already drilled.

Billy, it's centered. I've heard that the Suzuki Quadracer front rims are pretty close to fitting, but the back spacing is off.

Thanks Derrick. If worst comes to worst maybe I can find a rim off of a quad with a center spacing and I can just re-drill it. Flattrack 500R is on the way :)

Dammit!

Doing that mod would suddenly give me a ton of options for sand tires. Hmm...

same for a tri z too.. 86 r's have the same size forks as the 86 z so you could run the honda front end and the tri z tripples.. with the front honda brake caliper.. so you get a upgraded double piston caliper compared to the single tri z and you get all the tire choices all so! bet ya didnt know that... LOL

I just tried to order the rim and I wanted it sooner than the 2-3 months that they told me it would take. the cost has also gone up to $140 and there is no way that I will pay that much for a custom rim. It is bad enough that I had to pay $98 for the 11 inch Douglas wheel for ATC 350x and 250R. They do have those in stock and mine will be here in 4-5 days. I too wanted the additional tire options, but reality set in and there is no way i was going to pay that much and wait so long. This place in the link below has the ordering specs for Douglas rims.

All I can say is it's worth the time and the wait. I'm sure 3leggeddog would agree! We both have one.
