FINALLY!
I saw an ad in paper for 1985 250R water pumper. Called on it this morning and took a look at it. Guy said it was sitting for 2 seasons and was last ridden in 2004.
We put a new plug in it and put fresh gas in. Fired up on 4th kick and sounds great. Has stock exhaust. Needs new rear axle bearings and old ones are shot. Lots of wobble. Want to replace rear tires too. Has those wooley boogers on them.
Needs a little TLC and a few minor replacement parts.
Sprokets not tweeked and case has not been blown apart by thrown chain.
Anyway I ask the guy is he flexible on price. He says yes. I ask what is the bottom dollar cash he will take. He says "Well, I advertised it for 1000.00 so 800.00 is the least".
I tell him "but the ad said 900.00". He says "It did???" I tell him "yeah and if you want to see ad I will get it".
He said his wife was the one who put it in two papers and she screwed up.
So to make long story short, I tell him that the fenders need replaced because they are cracked, few holes in seat (minor) cracked clutch perch, axle bearings and faded tank. He was pretty cool dude.
We negotiate and he sold it to me for 700.00 and delivered it also. .
Also I want to thank my lovely wife for loaning me the money until I get tax return!
Do all you R experts think that was fair deal? It was the best I could do.

everything you stated that are bad can easlily be fixed. it looks complete enough to start with. and $700 doesnt sound to high to me. that way bikes are going i think you did very well. i have bought my 5th 250r in the last year on monday. it needs a lot of work just to get it like yours. i paid less but yours seems like a great project. best of luck with it. mike

Well they are hard to come by here. In the last year I only saw 1 of them in paper and was like 200 miles away.
This one was only 4 miles away. I figured if I did not get it, I would be regretting it and kicking myself for years to come.
Back in 1987 a guy was going to sell me a decent shape 1967 Chevelle for 250.00. All it needed was a front fender. Had a healthy 327 small block.
I passed on that offer and still regret it. Same thing happened again on a 1966 Mustang also the year after that.

So I want to change all fluids and flush radiators.
Is the walmart premix 50/50 antifreeze ok to use?
What trans fluid to use?

Thanks
