I'm trying to switch the seat and everything on my 85 sx over to the maier fenders i have. Right by where your legs go on the original fenders there is a plastic stud that a metal bracket slides over, and on the maier fenders they send you 2 metal brackets and a few bolts. any ideas how this setup is supposed to work? should i even put that metal seat bracket on? ( it doesnt look like it does a whole lot except maybe hold the fenders out a little bit. Pics and opinions would be great. thanks

You will need the bracket to hold the fenders away from the exhaust. I didn't instal the bracket on the one 250sx I had and within 30 minutes of riding the fender was melted.
The bolts are to mount the bracket to the fenders where the pegs are on the OEM fenders. I don't have any pics of it.

i just wanna know how in the **** you bolt a right angle onto here? I can see how to do the one side (have to drill a hole) but as far as the other, WTF?

i dont like them either but its better than spending a ton of cash on a rear fender.i just wish they would make them alittle more red so they would match the rest.

Perhaps something like this would be more in order Kevin. Of course I don't have 2 of them. It is setting on a quarter for size reference.
I will bring it with me tomorrow ,,, bring your fenders if you can.
john
I knew there would be a simple solution! well as long as thats the right diameter i think it'd work. i guess we'll see.

Well I took pics of my set up on my SX and it seems that the one side is empty and nothing really holding it. The other side is bolted to the plastic. I hope these pics can show you............peace

Thanks Scott,
Does anyone know if the fender comes predrilled holes for the seat and seat latch hardware. I know that the 350X fenders dont, and they can be a bear to get the seat on correctly.

Clay,
Its just the luck of the draw. Some places have the older fenders that require drilling. If you can find someone that has the newer fenders then they do come pre drilled. I would email or call JL ATV and see what they have. I know they have the newest big red type fenders (with built in mud flap), so they might also have the newest other fenders.

Thanks Bro. I got mine from www.hyperparts.com and they showed up today. Predrilled. Im happy. Man I payed $150 shipped for the front and rear fenders for that thing. $12 for Priority Mail shipping. THe just wrapped the Maier bag in about a 1/4 inch of plastic wrap and padded the corners. Showed up in 3 days perfect with no scratches. Im a happy camper. Im mounting that bracket in question right now. I had to double check your fender. I dont see how Howdys fender melted. He must have had a exhaust leak or something. I dont see a way to mount that one side at the moment. But I will figure something out.

Well I got it all done today. Shes all back together. Im going to make a little piece for that side to keep it from potentially rattleing. Currently doesnt rattle. I ran it for about 20 min with not problems or melted plastic. Plastic didnt even get warm. Pics to come soon on the 87 SX
