So I'm trying to get all of the details worked out BEFORE the 350X arrives so I can go straight to getting her done. I'm either going to get the skidplate powdered, or I am going to polish it myself.
What is the skidplate?? Is it aluminum or steel? If it is aluminum I am going to polish it, and if it is steel I'm going to powder it.
Thank you
Ben

I think it's steel. I'd spend the dime and get an aftermarket aluminum one from DG or one of those companies. Looks alot better and more sturdier. Just my opinion.

If your talking about the one under the motor, it is definately aluminum.

Yes. The one under the motor on the front of the frame is what I am talking about. It is aluminum, then? How thick is the aluminum?

Guessing about 1/4" or so.

I'll measure it later but it is no way 1/4"

It's around 1/8" thick...maybe a tad more.

I'm just wondering if the aluminum is thick enough for me to sand a little off and polish it and the aluminum still have structural integrity..

Yeah I'd say it's aluminum because it can bend fairly easy.

just measured an extra one I have....it is .080 thick......a little over a 1/16"......probably still plenty to sand and polish as it is pretty smoothe to begin with....definately aluminum......good luck with it....

Honestly I dont think a skidplate is worth polishing or powdercoating. After all its a skid plate! It will get abused. unless you plan on having a "garage queen" lol just my .o2...

Actually, they do look pretty good when they're polished. The last one I built I polished the skidplate and it holds up really good and its pretty easy too. It adds a nice touch. The unit has a little lip around the outside that would make it look near an 1/8 inch thick but it really is just a little more than 1/16 thick. I'd go ahead and polish it.
