Help!
The front wheel axle of my 225DX will not budge. I have tried beating it, heating it, talking nice to it. Nothing works. And I managed to damage the threads on top of that. The manual says to remove the cotter pin and nut and slide the axle out. Ha! What gives?

i would put some penetrating oil on it. I recommend Pb blaster or Kroils. kroil will break that axle loose in no time. good luck!

What is most likely the problem is that it is fused at the shocks or on the break hube. HAd the same problem with a 175. Had to cut it off.

Thanks,
Yeah right now I am soaking it with PB, but man I stood on a 2ft 1/2" breaker bar on the shaft and it didn't move a bit. I hate to cut it, but it may be the only option. It is a discontinued part too. Grrrr.

I think the problem is that the axle gets rusted inside the spacer. I pounded on mine with a sledge but it started to spread the forks. Ive never taken the front wheel off on mine, but if I were to try again I would get an air hammer and soak it in penetrating fluid.
On a parts 225 I had, I soaked it with WD-40 real well and then had someone turn the axle on the end with a wrench as I pounded it with a hammer and then I worked it back and forth...took about 20 mins to get out.

I have had to press a couple front Yamaha 200 / 225 axles out. They are a pain. What's worse is that the Polaris Scramblers the same Yamaha 225 set up, and they bind up the same way. I am glad I have a press!!

can you take the front end (triples & forks) off with out taking the wheel off?
Never though of that:rolleyes:
Thats what im going to do with my 200 when I get these wheel bearings. I dont want to mushroom the end of the bolt by wackin it with the sledge.

Yes, you can remove the front end without removing the triples. You just have to dissconnect the brake cable. I also reccomend removing the Front fender to avoid damaging it. I have a special block that was drilled out to just fit over the head of the axle bolt. And I have a aluminum block that I use for pushing the axle ( saves the axle from mushrooming much if any ). I use my 20 ton press and there has been a few times when it has not quite been enough, but I have a few tweeks that convince it to go further. lol ;)
