3Razors, all this time I've thought that was a KXT250 Tecate with an extended swingarm in your avatar. It's nice to finally see what it really is. Looks nice & I bet it's a blast to ride. Did you have to widen the triple clamps, or is that a really narrow front wheel? It almost looks like a really small super motard type tire.

Ya it does look like a tecate, I get that sometimes. I used a sandrail tire/wheel combo. For the triple clamps i widened the stock kx500 units.

Sweet, very sweet. Are you gonna make it out to TF 06? Sure would get some attention there! Toss on a set of Dirt Tires and line it up on the Strip! :w00t:

Yep Ganggreen is me. When the site changed long ago I could never log in? I am Ganggreen on other forums like planetsand. Really wish I could bring a couple bikes to TF. Coming from the westcoast I'm not going to be able to bring them with me:( I always wanted to try it on a dirtdrag, mostly its home is hillracing and duning.

Thanks guys! Long live the trikes! Ive never clocked it or anything. In Glamis we just race "heads up" style at oldsmobile hill. I usually ride a wheelie up the hill. It wants to come over on me even with a plus 8 swinger.

holey smokes!!! dude that looks... DANGEROUS!!! :w00t: :TrikesOwn :D
I'd like to see some real close up shots of the subframe/swinger and the front end of that thing sometime...when you have the chance...PLEASE!!!!

I usually ride a wheelie up the hill. It wants to come over on me even with a plus 8 swinger.I noticed you have the forks set up with a trailing axle & no front brake. Why not spin the fork tubes around so they're leading axle? That would put a little more weight out front, not a huge amount, but every little bit helps.
3Razors

It started out as a leading axle setup, but it turned and handled soo much better with a trailing axle setup. For pure hill dragging I usually turn it the other way. A wheelie bar would be about the only way to stop the wheelies! Its just the nature of the beast and ive pretty much come to accept it that way.

any ideas on what kinda hp that things pushiong when your on the go button? gotta be close to 90hp
3Razors

Oh ya its dangerous:) Anything that is too safe isnt fun! lol
Anyway I built the swingarm and modified the triple clamps myself. The subframe is a ac racing aluminum unit. It was a very easy conversion. Later could get some more pics of the components.
As for hp its probably in the low 90's depending on the shot i use. It was first built running on alchohol but I later switched to nitrous so i could play in the dunes then use the NOS for some hill action.

you could try lowering it some. I can't tell if you have a shock or strut. but for me and all the serious drag racers I have seen the trick is to get the swing arm level with the ground. with my rear lowered down that way and the front stock I get alot less wheelie action.
may be worth a try so im throwing it out there.

I would do that but the problem is we race through the whooped out section at the base of the hill so I need the extra suspension. Im running the OEM KX500 shock.

Nice work! I can imagine what the dirt bike riders say when they see it. Kinda of like us when we see a trike/quad conversion.

Ya with this bike its one of those things if people ask me "why did you do that"? I pretty much reply if you have to ask you would never understand....
As far as racing its sends all quads back to camp, its not a full on purpose built drag bike. So usually a full drag cheetah, alky, overide tranny banshee will take it. But I have a different creation in the works for that application.

looks much cooler then a regular KX500 and those things look sweet enough. My dad was gonna get one and get it set up for the street but decided to get the ZRX1100.

Now that ain't bad. I'd be more than happy with that. Especially on a 3-wheeler but obviously you're not.......cool can't wait to see what you're cooking up.

How does she handle for playing around in the dunes, Does it handle/turn OK?
Is that just a standard KX500 front fender cut down a bit or off something else?
Have you ever considered putting some type of rear fender on it. It looks mean like that but at the same time sort of unfinished. There is a guy on this site that did a yz450f conversion and he put a blaster rear fender on his beast and it looked like it was made for it?
I love how your keeping the sport alive with that weapon. Have you always had trikes?

Oh sorry. I didnt know this thread was still going. Well it handles great in the dunes, never used it much in the desert or mx. lol I would like to put a wider rear axle on, it is a little too narrow. Right now it is just a stock 84 tecate axle. The front fender is a KX60 rear fender drilled to fit. We played around with putting rear fenders on but nothing really complimented the seat and rear kickstart so I just went with the "naked" look. Trikes have always been my favorite. I am 26 and I started riding at age 7 on a 1985 Honda atc125m, tried out dirtbikes and quads but just keep coming back to "those dangerous 3 wheelers" lol.

The front fender looks great in the photos, too bad you couldn't find a nice rear one to suit it, but you get that on the big jobs........
Nice work

Not to dig this up from nowhere but have you tried a drag cut R rear fender?
3Razors
03-09-2006, 10:29 PM
Hmmmm. No I never tried that one. I thought about doing 400ex. I would probably have to special order one from maier to get the "green" color. If I could change one thing about it I would have a wider seat. Its a little slim.

Fullbore does the clear TRX plastic, maybe that would suit?

did you see the flip seat mod in my 500? that does not totally do away with the kick start issue but it is easier then removing the fender.
i like yours the way it is but if you wanted to you could put a KXT fender on there. it would be green and have a cut out for the kicker.

I tried playing around with the tecate fenders. The one that almost worked the best were the 84-85 ones. However the tecate seat was extremely ill fitting to the seat/tank conjunction. The flip seat is a good idea. Alot of the cr500 trikes ive ridden with use it. I might go back to this idea during the summer. (off season time for the dunes)

These would widen her a bit. Have them on mine and they are good quality.

I cant run the risk of spacers. This thing makes too much power and Im afraid a spacer wont hold up. I am however looking for an extended axle but those are pretty rare these days!!!

The 86/87 axle carrier bolts on and the 86/87 axle is wider. Not sure by how much but its worth looking into.

03-09-2006, 11:04 PM
Definately. I also like how the 86/87 is thicker. The 84/85 is a little too thin.
200x Basket
03-10-2006, 12:03 AM
the 86/86 is wider and stronger but you need the complete rear. hub to hub and the brakes. i actually put a caliper off of a ninja 750 on my 86 tecate!!!
to be honest if i were you and looking for a new axle set up i would look into a later model. then you could get some nice strong NEW parts.

Could you cut the font off an 86 T3 seat pan, then plastic weld the kx500 seat nose to the front of the T3 pan, then get it covered in new hi-density foam, new gripper seat cover and wah-la, KX seat/tank junction and tecate seat and plastic.
P.S. I feel sick to the stomach that I just told someone to cut up a pefectly good Tecate seat pan..................... forget I spoke.........
