Hey guys. I'm trying to spread my budget out for this 350X I bought.
I totaled the cost of the things I am going to get for it, and I came up with around $400. That gives me a $200 budget to paint the frame, swinger, axle, and gas tank. Do you think that I could do it for $200 or less?? I'm just asking for a ball-park estimate before I go and find a powdercoater.
Also.. is powdercoating gas-resistant?? Or should I have the tank painted with paint/clear?
And does anyone know where I can get new front and rear sprockets and a chain for under $50? They are selling sprocket/chain kits on eBay for 200X's for like $40 bucks, but they aren't selling them like that for 350X's.. anyone know of a good place?
Oh yes.. and did they make a SuperTrapp for the 350X? I'd love to have one on my X too.
(The chain question is on the second page)
Thanks
Ben

As for powdercoating, It all depends on the powder coating they use, most are fuel resistance uv resistant. It is hardcore stuff, I am a amatuer powder coater, I have powder coated parts to my bikes only in my garage, and in the learning process I have made mistakes and tryed to remove powder coating and I will tell you it is a pain the arse to remove. Here is a picture of the trees I powder coated yesterday for a 110 project I am working on.

Yes, they did make a Supertrapp for the 350X, Ebay probably the best bet there. Miller welding out behind Sarveys does powder coating and from what I have heard are very reasonably priced. If still interested in this axle I have let me know. I am not sure if I would powder coat the tank, never really tthought of it. When it comes to powder coating I think frame and swingarm.

If you make a mistake on powdercoating, try that aircraft aluminum stripper. works good for me on stuff that got powdercoated that should'nt have.

Why did I make a mistake. Like I said never read up on it just tryed it on aluminum and looks nice doesn't come off or cause any problems. Looks really smooth. Is there a specific reason or is it a personal opinion. Are saying I cannot powder coat my aluminum side covers also?

All I was saying, if you need to remove powdercoat, use the aircraft stripper. its works good.

Thats cool, I meant no offense, I just was wondering if you knew something I didn't, I know that aluminum will lose its strenght if heated at normal bake times, but If you use a special powder that doesn't need to cook so hot to cure, Like the one I used I cured at 275 degress for 15 minute. The aluminum still will hold its strenght allowing you to put powder on stuctural things that are aluminum. I know you would not want to powder coat aluminum stuctural things at 400 degrees. You would compromise the integrity of the metal.
As for the red, I am putiing this on a 110 and I am trying to duplicate the color scheme of the original all red, but with suspension.
Dammit!

Don't skimp on the chain. Seriously it isn't worth it. A broken chain will seriously ruin your day (and quite possibly the crank case).

What size is the chain for the 350X??
520x90 with 13 tooth front and 40 tooth rear
I would run a RK or DID. I have had bad luck with the primary drive chain on my 350X.

I think the chain for the 350x is a 520-they make O rings and non O ring, if you on a budget the non O ring chain at ROCKY MTN is very cheap. like 38 bucks if my memory serves me.Now, powdercoating-there are many self done powdercoating kits you can buy-if youre planning on doing it after this project is done it may be worth your wild to purchase 1-I personally ship my stuff to my personal powdercoater and in my opionion, it can get very costly-the main cost issue is prepping and type of powdercoat you want, you can get Eastwood, etc brand name powercoat and these companies offer many glosses, shades od coatings etc which will increase your cost,I would recommend to you trying a local guy in yopur area and EXPLAIN to him exactly what you need and want, show him the pieces, etc that are going to be done and try to get everything done a one time if they are going to be the same color, finish, the costs rise when you need multiple shades and different color.I would NOT recomend a large company like SUMAX, ETC,they tend to need multiple pieces and in my opinion there quality of work is poor(I have gotten pieces done by them and wasnt happy-for your information in case you were curious)my local guy that did it in the back garage was far superior-my pieces tend to run alot of money, due to the finishes I ask for and prep work-m y last batch was 450.00 from him and I just sent a frame for a fl350 odyssey that is gonna run me alone over 500.00 so be prepared for the costs-try to get only the big item like the frame and swinger done only, the other parts paint them, it may be cheaper for you in the long run

Heres a different one I found on eBay. How well do you think it would work?
I'm not going to be doing anything hardcore on my X.. mostly just driving around my yard, and the occasional race against my friends to embarrass them on their utility quads that they think are fast.
I'll try to get the link to work.. one sec.

Maybe this will work.
I was looking at the 2 gold chains on the bottom of the screen.. one is a "racing chain" and one is an "o-ring chain".
Which do you figure would be better for the money?
One of those two, or the one off eBay?

http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=4303 Pm this guy, he had a ton of powdercoat work done and it only cost him 50 bucks mabye you can get his guys number, etc and ship to him??
I would got for this 1-youre on a budget and it is very cheap, you dont need a racing chain for your 350x presently do you, it saves you alittle coin for powdercoating as well http://www.rockymountainatv.com/productDetail.do

stay away from the non o-ring chain you'll be adjusting it every time you ride. for $65 you can get a good o-ring one.
my one bubby does powder coating he would do the frame for around $150

That's probably going to be the best deal on a high quality chain you're going to find.
