Been racing them wide-open for 2 years now with no problems! Oils nowadays are way better than 20 years ago. Amsoil has some race synthetic 2 stroke oils they recommend at 100-1!
You run a tank of Blue-Marbel or Amsoil at 40-1 thru your bike and you'll never go back. You'll feel the power increase under your butt!

This question has been posed SO many times, and you get a few hundred answers at each one.
I think everyone agrees that it depneds on the oil you use, and not the machine you are running it in.
With that stipulation, you run general purpose 2 cycle oils at 20-25:1. Non-synthetic factory oils such as Yamahlube, and the Honda stuff runs about 32:1. High performance racing oils should always be run at 50:1 or leaner. They dont burn off as quickly and over mixing will result in a crank full of residual oil and lots of smoke that will never go away. Its comes in 12.8 or 13 oz bottles for a reason. One bottle to a 5 gallon can. If you take your top end off, and you can dump a half quart of oil out of your crank, you are mixing too much oil!
