85-86 triple trees for 350x

Is there a difference in the triple tress for a 85 to a 86 350x, is 1 colored black on the top tree and if so what year is that?The 85?:wondering

86 are black on top....that is the only difference I know of....

85 came stock will ball bearing and 86 had tapered bearings

can you use a tapered bearing replacement in the 85 frame?Mine are bad and the wrong Triple trees as well-they are black on top and the frame is a 85-almost everything on it has been interchanged so hence my questions,I bought a replacement set but they are tapered bearings.

the lower steering stem is the for 85 and 86 was just at the dealer thurs and verified it

they say you can use the tapered ones on the ones for ball bearings. when I put my 350x tripples on my 200x I used the tapered bearings and it didn't work very well. I changed them back to the balls on the bottom, but I kept the tapered ones on the top. 200x and 350x tapered bearings have the same part number, I don't know why they didn't work.

could the frames be different by chance on the stem?
I was assuming they were both the same, I asked the mnaufacturer and he said they are interchangeable but I have heard they arent at all.
