Just wondering if anyone has an idea of what a good carb would be for my '83 300R?
I'm in the process of upgradeing the exhaust to a full DG system and have a K&N air filter. I'm currently Running a stock 30mm Carb that has been jeted for the 300 with a stock pipe.
I ride alot of forestry roads... abit of trial riding and open it up on any hill I find. I want a carb that will flow alot better and give me that punch and torque when I need to take a hill. I was thinking of a keihin PJ 34-36mm.
Any advice....................?
P.S. Does anyone know where I can get a +4 swinger?

personaly i'd go with the Keihin PWK air stricker either the 35mm or the 38mm.
i bought the 38mm but i'm waiting on the boyessen R/V and my Full DG system *Edited**Edited* i install it all at once...oh and now i gotta hone and new ring the trike.
I am not lookin forward to it over heating in like 3 minutes though!!!!!
You should start investing in a liquid cooled, as i am (1985). the intake will bolt on but the exhaust wont. and the filter (if in the air box) wont work either. i got the K&N as a replacement for stock.
Hope this helps you eh!!
OH seems to me that the smaller carbs make the trike more low end...wish i woulda known that *Edited**Edited* i bought the 38mm!!!! lol

39.5MM OR 40MM for high rev on a 250cc
36MM for low to midrange on a 250cc
40mm for a 500cc
38mm is inbetween
PWK all the way

I am up in the air, I might stick with the stock carb, but I bought a 38mm pwk if I'm not happy, and I also picked up a flat slide to try also.

... the 300R kits are nice.... i would say just stick a stock 86 R carb on there, its 34mm and flat side, it will improve throttle response all over hte board,

Have you tried it with the stock carb? I read a article in dirtwheels on the Mukuni that I have. they said it kicks butt, but I've never used that type of carb before. it looks like a lectron carb. I thought about stealing the Keihin that I put on the Tecate and using it on the aircooled, and I still might. hopefully I'll have some bikes back up and running Sunday, I dropped a bundle and had 4 topends redone, now I have 2 spare aircooler cylinders on the shelf ready to rock and roll and I'm curious on what a six speed is all about on the 86 Z.

i have a 81 r with a stock carb, my 82 r with 300r kit has a visually much larger carb on it. i am not sure of the size. it is much harder to ride at slow speeds than my 81. i am thinking of trying a smaller carb to get better low end rideability. but it shags ass wide open.

My 300R motor I bought already had a 85R carb attached with it... I've never "fired" it up as of yet though.... sitting in storage.
