if i was to sand my head and other parts of my engine ie crackcase etc like this...

also ive seen it done on the suspension arm is that also alluminiom and i think a swingarm would look good like that is it possible?

aluminum does not technically rust, it oxidizes. It will eventually become dull and start to pit. You either have to keep it polished or have to put some kind of coating on it to help preserve it.

Paul, Our Z swingers are steel so, unless you clear coat it after you strip it, it will rust ..... ALOT!. I think it would be very hard to make the swinger look any good.... too many awkward to get to places.

well i would not sand it.use some aircraft paint remover,and strip the paint.then buff it out with 1500 grit sand paper,and polish it with mothers aluminum polish'

Here is my process, for hand polishing aluminum...lengthy, but it turns out great...
1. 400 grit, wet sand, until smooth...
2. 600 grit, wet sand, until you get a nice polish...
3. 1000 grit, almost there....
4, 1500 grit for a few minutes...clean, and then use Nevr-Dull...polish the hell out of it, and then use a soft towel to clean it off.
If the metal is workable, I get just about a mirror finish from aluminum...I use to detail Holley carbs out, show finish, you would be surprised at how those carbs turn out after polishing...I may do my leftover Tri-Z fork tubes and sell them afterward...
