this will be a bolt on only set up. at least for this up comming season.

i'm some what new to 2-strokes. i know my way around them and how to jet them. i know all parts need to work together as far as pipes, carbs, reeds or rad valve, higher compression. but i'm not sure what works well with what.

the bike is a 86 250R it will only be ridden in the sand at and elevation of 9000 feet. (no air up here)

the type of riding will be long sand drags and short steep sand hill climbs. (50 to 100 yards, pined in 2nd or 3rd gear)

i need ideas for a pipe, maybe carb?, reeds?, reed cage? or go with a rad valve? thinner head gasket?, maybe a cool head? it already has a K&N and the airbox lid drilled.

i want this thing to really rip and go by the 450s. what do you guys thing will be the best set up. money isn't really an issue. also where can these items be found.

thanks for any help.

Hey X350X, These are just my 2 cents------Ducan Racing/Paul Turner, ESR and Trinity Racing rev pipes probably make the best power, and DG and most FMFs are better than stock pipes. Pyramid, Boysen Rad valve and V-force 2 or 3 are probably the top performing reeds. I also like the Kiehin 38MM AirStriker quadvent or 39MM PWK for carbs. If you are primarily using it for drag racing and hill climbs, go with a straight paddled tire. You can also change front and/or rear sprockets to get more power but will lose some top end.

DSJockeys friend rides a 85 310/250R at Pawnee. You need to come ride with us and compare info sometime. I have a 3/4 mile track behind my house if you come up to Cheyenne some weekend. Also, I am going to Ft Collins Friday to look at a 1985 250R thats for sale. Want to meet up and take a look too? He has several 250Rs and lots of parts.

i think i'm going to go with the paul turner high rev pipe and and havn't yet decided on what to do with the reeds reed cage or rad valve optoin. i'm going to keep the stock 34mm carb for now i may go up to a bigger one later on.

any suggestions on going with reeds or a rad valve? i don't know to much about either. reeds are adjustable. what is adjustable. rpm at which the power comes on?

yes i want to make it to pawnee soon. i need to get the 350 and the R OHV stickers soon. when is the next get together out there?

There is a PT rev pipe in an Ebay store that needs sandblasting and paint for $140, if its still there. That is my choice as well if I start building mine up. I have both rad valves reeds and a large assortment of other reeds in the garage that will all work on the 250Rs and my 350 Odysseys. You are welcome to come out some warm weekend to my track, swap from one reed setup to another and see which one works the best for what ever pipe and carb/airbox set-up you go with. We can drag race against one of my machines and use it as a baseline to guage improvments or degrades.

I have not heard about the next Pawnee ride , but it should be soon. Wyomings ORV stickers are a light violet color this year, looks damn nice on a red and black machine! LOL
