What would I need to do to polish the sidecase on my 1985 250r? I've been told by many people to do this. Thanks :)

Save yourself the trouble and pay a proffesional. If you don't have the right tools you won't get anywhere near the same results. Should only cost 30-40 bucks.

You could spend hours doing it by hand and not get results like this. (http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=42131&highlight=bling)

i polished my motor on my 85 and my forks, tripple, and swingarm linkage on my 86 my buddy owns his own shop real easy he told me if I told any one his secret,s he kill me,he lets me use his stuff .Idont know exactly what kind of buffer he,s got but it costs a lot .first i bead blast everything remove all paint it helps when you first start.he uses fine sandpaper I think it 320 on a air tool to smooth things out and a porting tool with a differnt attachment on the end for hard to reach places then too the buffer he uses GREESELESS COMPOUND it red and comes in a tube its like sand paper but you put it on the buffing wheel let it dry for a minute and go. it smooths things out and you start to see what it gonna look like but its dull.once you do all your parts with that you switch your wheels and use a polishing compound this is where you see what it gonna look like!! It is really time comsuming I stood in front of thr buffer for 3 hours just doing my clutch cover but it was well worth it didnt cost me anything but my time thats the way to go !!!!!.He says that greeseless compound is hard to find? but when you do, it saves a ton of time, I skiped the sanding step totaly beats hand sanding any day!!!! thats all I got, good luck its well worth it!!!!

I was talking to breastman, sorry. We live in the same state. :D

Any metal polisher can do it. Probably no need to ship it. Look in your local yellow pages. I bet you can find someone to do it for no more than fifty bucks for the clutch side and less for the stator side.

Do you live anywhere near Yukon? are you nuts 50 dollars for the clutch and stator cover ( i would like to meet this guy that can do it for that). The stator cover is easy but the clutch with the water pump that can be a challenge i charge 105 for both. If you use sand paper starting out about 320 and work up to 2000 will get a good job when you finish off with some kind of polishing compound like mothers. don't start using sand paper less than 320 40times more sanding if you don't. But doing it with sand paper won't quite get the same finish as polishing it with a wheel. Oh by they way DO NOT REMOVE PAINT WITH A BEAD BLASTER 100 TIMES MORE SANDING. TO GET RID OF THE GREY APPERANCE. WWW.EYEKANDI.BIZ

I bead blasted all my stuff and i didnt have to sand one thing!!!!!!!! I used greeseless compound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! came out verry nice. I can see if you got nicks or pits that you want out other than that its relly not nesasary.

if your not being to particular greasless works good but i'm always concerned of pits, and wavey surfaces, i hand sand alot before i polish any of it out.
