Ok. So my dad found a 200X (he thought it was a 200X, but I said it was an S after he told me it had a pull start) for $400. He said its in great condition, but if its an S, I don't want it.. so we didn't even go look for it. But after seeing this auction on eBay where he states that it comes with a "Pullstarter rebuild kit" and it is for 84-85 200X's, I started to wonder..

I checked the specs on the main page and it says that all X's came with a kick start. Did some X's ('83 is the one that my dad was looking at) come with a pull start???
I'm just kind of curious because it struck me as weird.

Thanks
Ben

It has a 200E motor in it.

Well I'm almost positive that the one my dad looked at is a 200S or just 200. He said that it was all-red, recoil start, and he didn't think it had rear suspension..
It just made me wonder why this guy has a repair kit for a recoil starter in the 200X lot auction.

I saw that too and was wondering what it was all about. Not a bad lot though for the price, otherwise. As far as I know, the 200X never had a pull start.

all X's came with a kick start, and if it is an X with a pull start than its most likely an autoX, if it has no suspension its an s or maybe even an e, e's were only made it 82-83 (they had a rack too)

An auto X is a 200e motor in a 200X chasie.

Personally, if I ever own another 83-85 200x, which I must sauy is not very likely, it will be an auto-x conversion. That way you don't have to worry about the infamous kickstarter problems. Other than the pull start and being an semi automatic trans, they are the same engines. I would go and look at it if I was you. Maybe someone repainted the tank red?

I put a 200s motor in a 200X with an extended axle. Gave the trike to my Brother in Florida last year. He rides it all the time. Still calls to tell Me how much He loves it.

A 200e motor will not fit in a 200x chassis without modifying the frame ( The electric starter gets in the way ). Only the 185, 185s, 200, & 200s 3 wheeler motors bolt in. ;)

Lets not forget about the rear brake pedal issue.
The 200X has part of the brake pedal pivot assembly mpunted on the engine itself. Some fabrication would have to be done to get rear brakes working on any so called "Auto-X" conversion.

Yep, that is a issue to think about. I know I have made up quite a few special peddles to fix this problem. I think I still have one ready to go. ;)

Can I ask what might be a stupid question? How is a 200S motor virtually the same as a 200X motor, aside from the semi-auto tranny? Are there mods you can make to the engine, cause the last I rode one, a 200S isn't all that fast.

Thats not a stupid question. I have a 200s and when my friend had a 200x and left it at my house for a few weeks I rode the heck out of it:cool: The big difference is the transmission/ gearing/ clutch. I think its the ratio in between the gears, I dont think they are the same on the S as they are on the X. I think the X weighs less too. There could be other differences between the motors, but I didnt notice any, then again Im no expert on this stuff by any means. would be cool to have an auto X though
