View Full Version : 1983 200X restoration pics--STOPPED resto
Well, I finally got out to the garage to take some pics of my project. Actually, I finally put the NOS OEM seat on my new Maier fenders tonight. It was actually kind of painful, because the seat is SO nice. I almost don't want to use it. (Thanks rangerover (Adam)!) But, I thought this would be an opportune time to get some shots at the beginning stage.
In any event, here's the start. As you can see, nothing is together yet. I still have to get the swinger powder coated. Once that is done, I can start putting it back together.
Don't worry, I'm hopefully getting some new tank shrouds from aussieduner at some point in time. Mine are in terrible shape.
Also, I'm actually kind of bummed with the Maier rear fenders. They are made fine and all, but the color really isn't that close to the OEM fenders. Is it really that hard to match the color? Come on Maier!! Oh well, I'll just need to get a new Maier front feder now, 'cause the OEM sure looks bad with it.
Here's some more shots.
Seeing as someone on eBay sold me "200X" rims and they ended up being 9"ers, I decided to go with an '85-'86 250R tire format. I always liked those tires.... I do need a new front tire, however. After seeing how quickly 20 year old tires deteriorate, I'm not taking any chances with the one I have.
The first photo is the 'lightly used' engine I got off of eBay. The red engine is what was in the original bike. It allegedly runs well, but smokes lightly. Also, I didn't want a red engine in my rebuild/restoration.
The last photo here is the piece of cr@p 200X I bought on eBay. Man I got taken on that. The guy was a fool and was unreasonable. Instead of sulking, I just decided to completely rebuild. Actually, it's more like I build a new one using some of the old parts. Almost everything on the new trike is either new or purchased on eBay including the front forks. The headlight, guard, and handlebars shown on the old trike are actually purchases off eBay.

I don't live too far from Chaparral Motorsports, so I just drove out there and bought the Maier's. I think they were $127 with tax.
How much does West Coast charge to powder coat the swing arm?

Well, I figured the Maier's were better than what I currently had. Not to mention, I couldn't find a set of NOS OEM fenders. Then again, even if I did, I doubt I could afford them. I'm in some serious debt over this thing as it is. What did you end up doing about fenders?
Well, at first, I'm just going to run the engine as is, I think--just keep it completely stock. I was going to get a DG carb and pipe, but I've spent way too much on it already at the moment, and it's still not close to ridable, so my goal is to now just get it together. I was going to install the swingarm as it is, but it really looks cr@ppy, so I figure I better just paint it to match the new rear shock and newly coated frame.

the reason why maier's color isnt matched to honda is because that is honda's color and put a patent on Honda Red. so they matched it as close as they could that is why on my 86 250R i went with the red dull fender cuz that looks way closer then the shiny red i thought.

Yup, that would be the one I'd bring.
Do you have a photo of yours?

Thanks. Yeah, the seat is super nice. It's so soft. All the old one's you see have just hardened over the years. I wonder if there's a way to keep 'em soft like that. I'm worried I'll never see another new one after this.
Yeah, the fenders are nice. I just wish the color was more like the original red.

Where is Ken located?

The only plastic that I need was the front fender.Won it off ebay for $70:beer

Was it NOS or used? I got a used OEM with a small crack in it off eBay for about $35. It is in otherwise decent shape. However, now I might as well buy a new Maier front, so a) I have all new plastic, and b) the fenders match. Cause the OEM clearly doesn't match the Maier.
Used OEM plastic front fender.

Well, I'm stopping the restoration. Ugh. I've decided that it's not in my best interests to try and take the trike with me and deal with it in NYC. So, I'm selling all my parts. I have a ton of new stuff. Some you can see in the pics (on first page), some you can't. If anyone is interested in the stuff they see in the pics, PM me. Please only PM me with realistic offers. Otherwise I'm going to put this stuff on eBay and let it ride. Thanks.
