Ok. So my dads friend is selling his 200X and I am thinking about buying it, possibly fixing it up and customizing it like the SX for my senior project (we have to do a hands-on project in order to graduate.. I think its kind of stupid, but it gives me reason to buy an X and fix it up). Well he is selling it for $400.. I haven't seen it yet but my dad said it looks nice.. and when he thinks something looks nice, it must be nice. He said one of the brake handles is broken, and the tank is dented a little, but no biggie.. easy fix. I am thinking of a small frame-off deal.. paint the frame, new exhaust, paint all the small components.. make it look snazzy. Well the guy said that it runs awesome in the summer, and starts on the first or second kick. But in winter, it never starts. What do you figure it is? I'm thinking jetting, but it could be something else.
If I were to get it, what would I need to know? How would I fix the problem of it not starting in the winter? What all would I need to look at/replace? And what would I need to know if I were to dismantle it and fix it up?
Having only ever owned my SX, and worked on my dads Big Reds, I know nothing about X's and trikes of that sort. So any tips would be awesome! Thanks guys

The pilot jet can affect starting just a little bit, but that about the extent jetting affects starting. Id clean the carb "just because" and make sure all orifices are open, but my first look into the actual problem would be to check proper operation of the choke circuit, and make sure none of your valve adjustments are too tight.

As in any case with any bike, start by checking for fuel flow and good spark, and putting in a fresh plug.

My 225 had a hard time starting in the cold.Adjusted the valve lash and wala it stars rite up.

My 1985 200x has been a blast to restore. This motor I am building is going to be real nice. Not too crazy though.Do you have a compressor for sandblasting?
