ive made a few upgrades, albeit mostly cosmetic.
i replaced all the mudflap bolts and fender brace with T30 stainless steel torx bolts, mounted a super bright truck LED marker light for the tail light, made a muffler can, i didnt pack it so ill be cutting the end back off to do so. And made a fender brace to reinforce where the pictured notches had been cut for a rack out of aluminum diamond plate sandwiching the plastic with 9 stainless screws threaded into a identical shaped peice of heavy street sign aluminum. i also changed the oil and filter and bent the bars back up best i could not using heat (bad) after rolling it last fall (worse)

thx m8!, mines an 83 ytm 200k, as far as not running a chain cage ..if anything it makes cleaning mud and muck off my chain much easier, and it makes it easier to douse with chain lube. ive never had the chain gaurd so i really dont know if it would help/hurt anything anyway.
to the best of my knowledge the ytm 225dx top end will mount to the 200cc bottom end but i dont think 25cc+- is enough improvement to a 200cc bike to warrent swapping heads/jugs. and i havent looked into a cam or anything for mine, so i dont know. im just going for a clean mostly stock look, with a few custom touches.
thx for the compliments! post pics of your rides!!!

The 225 head is the same as the 200, as for the cylinder it will NOT bolt up. As for a cam Web Cam makes one.
Nimda- Your YTM looks nice, it is nice to see some customizing. Most YTM's look the same it is good to see something different every now and then.

these hard tail trikes are hard chargin' trail busters..next to nothing you can't manuver around, water and mud have little affect, are mega reliable if maintained properly. long live the yamahauler!:TrikesOwn
btw, how do you like those heavy carslie rears wok out for ya??

I just got this one running. It was in a barn for several years as a non-runner. The engine was fine, but the carb, cables, fork, chain, etc. were in bad shape. It is not as nice as any of the ones I have seen, but I just wanted to get it running. I removed the oil pump and the oil tank and just premix the gas. It seems like it is running rich, that may have something to do with it, although it seems like it would run lean if anything. I am going to play with the jets to see if I can get it running better. I tried to attach a couple of pictures, not sure if I did it right.

I haven't had this trike out on the trails yet but the Carslies should work out fine. My Dad's old YTM had a set on it and it did ok. The only problem will be in wet snow and thick mud were they don't clean out too well. Lol and the hard ride they have.
My 1985 225 DXN with Sky Blue plastic has a Dial A Jet on it,Cobra exguast,K+N filter,Webcam,Wesico piston.

Rodger That! They suck in mud or even several inches of snow. Lemme put it this way, my bald quadsport tires get more traction that brand new trail pros however they do slide like crazy.

thx for the info on the carslile trils tires! sliding around is fun and all, but if they suck in mud and snow their not the right tire for my terrain.
edog, rub it in why dont ya? lol super nice dx, and a cobra sys to boot!! (wheres that droool icon??)
danjohnson, nice find!! so many of those 2 strokers got abused to death and are now mostly beyond repair.
since ive rooted you ytm fans outta the closet with the red door (cough honda)) im looking for: a headlight cage w/out the rack style.
a tow ball hitch, and a factory rear rack. of coarse the cheaper the better.
was there ever a factory speedo or tach for the 2 stroke ytm??
