if you put the bigger piston in you'll also have to go the distance, meaning better cam heavy duty valve springs and all that other good stuff. If you do one without the others you be looking for another top end to put into it in no time. don't do the job half ass. go the distince or it will surly cost you alot more money down he road. just my opionion but I've seen it a 100 times on these boards. guys cut corners to take the cheaper way out and it ends up costing them twice as much down the road. do it right the first time and it should last a good while.

i dont know Chris...i mean you can run a 10:25:1 piston and just put on new OEM valves and your bike wont die. I run a powroll econo 198cc kit...midrange cam, valve springs, big valves..wiseco piston...round here it cost about 500 dollars out of everything if i remember rightly. But IDK...my freaking cabr never works and since its so high compression, and my kicker gears are pretty bum bum bum haha so i run 108 octain and it runs great. HELL LOUD but you will like it. Oh i also ported/polished it myself. Dont know if it did much. And new timing chain and valve leads. haha i forgot sorry.

If it needs it do it, but I disagree with Chrisr200x you don't need all that other stuff ( cam and springs) if it only needs a piston. What is the compression in psi? If it is low, perhaps rings alone will fix it, but if the cylinder bore and/or the piston are out of tolerence it needs a new piston and fresh bore to match. Have it measured at a machine shop. Either way I would check out the cam chain and the cam chain tensioner and guide and also see if these are good as these are thnigs I would replace on a top end job. My .02
It is better to do it all at once, with good parts. This is the best way.I am not saying you can't do it the other way.The way that I recommend will last you longer if done rite.

It deepened on what you want to do, bore it out of get a big bore kit. If you are just boring it out then you only do what is needed if you cylinder is out of spec. Even boring it to the max will only gain a few cc's and not much if any of a difference from just going to the next size. If it needs a bore then I would go to the next size and put in a wiesco 10.25:1 piston, you will notice an increase in power.
Piston and rings will run around $120, the bore job is about $60, and a gasket set should be about $30.
