Need tri-z help

i just picked up a 85 tri-z and theres a bit of stuff that looks like its missing...can anyone show me a pic of the radiator hoses and how they go in to the motor..cause its got duck tape over like 3 holes on the motor and im not sure what hoses hook up to them....and also where does the CDI hook up at....and the muffler... does it hook on with a spring to the motor.....if anyone has pics of there motor and radiator up close thatd be great thanks..

As for the CDI.. look for a recent post about Tri Z wiring.. it is very nice. Yes, the head pipe hook up with springs (and lots of Silicon).

Is that what you use to seal it up Chainsaw? Mine always drips oil everywhere!:rolleyes:

Thats one of the few engineering mistakes by Yamaha... the head pipe to cylinder connection blows goats. They should of at least tried to copy Honda on that, or came up with something else. Every Z Ive ever owned is an oil spewing monster up front. I usually cake it with half a tube of silicon, and let it dry for a good week. That works for a while. Also watch the first time you start her up after doing this.. it will spit all the left overs out the tail pipe and will ruin your wall paper.. hahaha.

Do you think you could do the job the silicon with an o-ring? Silicon seems a bit too permanent. It took over 2 hours to clean the half burnt oil from my engine so im looking for a fix that works well

I havent had any luck at all with those junk o rings in the gasket kits. Even with silicon, seems like it doesnt want to seal that well.

Thanks guys! so you pop off the pipe, coat it in there and let it sit for a day or two and your good to go? Any special area to coat it? Or just put a good sized coating on the end of it where it connects to the cylinder(the pipe part)?
I was wondering why all the Z's on the board dont leak like mine!:beer

hey can you get that hot temp.. silcone at an auto parts store or where can you find it at

yeah, any auto parts store carries it. Just make sure you get the high temp.

Be sure to have all the surfaces clean you are going to apply the silicon. I usually put a nice gob inside the pipe itself.. dont worry about "cutting off the air flow" it will blow out everything that doesnt need to be there. Then I goop a bunch on the outlet of the cylinder.. kinda like making a silicon sandwich with the pipe and cylinder. I usually let mine sit for a good 3-5 days. There is no air movement down there, so you will have to make sure its all dry.

I used some stuff called....I cant remember the name I'll tell ya tomorrow...it is like a piece of gum, your stretch it and i put around the outside of the exhaust port, I put a good thick coat on and then forced the pipe on good and tight. It doesnt leak at all.
