1984 200X Kick Start Problem!

Hello again, Todays problem is when I try to kick start the lever does not engage. I can feel it skipping over gears or something. Do I have to remove the engine and split the case to see what's going on? or does someone know of any tricks that might help. Will I need any special tools for this repair?

My 83' does this occasionally. I was wondering the same thing?

There has been numerous threads on this problem here lately. The 83-85 200x had this problem with kick start slippage and honda used to offer a kit to fix it. Most people just have slight slippage problems but your doesn't even engage. Yours could have worse or different problems. And you will probably have to split the cases. Take off the small cover at the base of the kickstarter and check to see if those two gears right there are worn down or broken. I doubt that's the problem, you'll probably have to split the cases but it may be?:(

What the - I decided to check the engine serial # just to make sure it is a 1984 . I took this number off the Lt side below the gear shifter - ME02E-5400321. I looked for different numbers else where on the engine just to make sure. I triple checked the number and it does start with ME02E. What engine is this?:wondering

I do not have any idea if Honda made a kit for that model motor. But I do know a lot of those parts innerchange with the 200x motors, so there is a chance they did make one. Heck the 83 200x kit may just work in it as well. The bad news is I sold my ONLY 83 200x kit I had, and I know Honda discontinued them and the kick starter pinion gear for the 83 200x's.
The best I could do is try to match them up with one of my used gears I have. But to do so would mean you have to split your motor.

is your trike sitting out i the cold.. if so put it in a heated place for a while and try to start it.. thats what i do with my 87 250x
