A friend of mine has an '86 Big Red and wants to put the forks and front end from a 200X on it. I keep telling him how that will ruin the Big Red. Keep it original I say. I just can't help but think how that will look stupid and ruin the utility look of the bike. The bike needs the fat front tire to steer it. He says the suspension will be so much better. It is a Big Red, does he want to jump it?? What do you guys think.. Stupid or what???

Why not.. People do it to the sx and like it.
If he changed his rear tires to 22's and removed the racks... and added the 200x frontend wouldn't he just have an sx with an x frontend?
Just my thought.

Well I have to agree with you Mike. That is a horrible idea, IMHO. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and can do what they want with their own trike but I feel this is little or NO gain what so ever. Now I understand the 200x front end on the SX. Its not necessarily the front suspension part that they are after. I believe its more for the front disc brake system. That is a huge upgrade for a utility trike. Having a front disc brakes is 100 times better than the drums.
But when you are adding the SX front end to the big red, then you arent getting any better braking system at all. In fact its the same. You will gain a few inches of travel for the front but there isnt enough weight on the front to probably use that much travel. And like you stated, the big red has alot of rear weight and when removing the rack and larger tire up front, you arent going to be steering very well at all. I say for those that want better suspension, then sell the big red and get a nice SX. Then maybe put the 200x front end on later................peace

buy the trike from him and help him find a 200x they are a dime a dozen...........
Keep the BIG RED OEM. Sounds like he bought himself the wrong trike to ride. The Red will NEVER be a racer so if he is looking for speed and power go ahead and grow up to a sport trike and leave the utility alone.
People like this make our beloved trikes into frankenstiens. Please cut the crap and slap this guy into reality.

yep doesnt look bad at all, lowering the stance with the tires makes it look nicer.

Hell people get Ideas in there head and run with them all the time. Usually it ruins a machine, The Red pictured doesnt look bad but it does look somewhat like it has no place, Its no really a BigRed anymore, but its a far cry from a sport machine as well. I think it should be left alone myself. Just make sure that he cant find any 200X frontends lol.

That's like a fat chick wearin a sports bra!
But i would think the skinnier tire and the increased travel in the front would help the handling a bit. I say leave well enough alone.

OK, thanks Mike... it's great to hear all of your ideas on how I should set up my machines...However, I will be the one to make the decisions on this subject. I do have a sport machine, a 64mph 200x. I do own the right trike.....2 of them. The BIGRED has bent forks from a crash a few years back and I happen to have an extra 200x front end laying around so I see the swap as the best way to get things right. Thanks for all the input Mike, Quit whining and lets go for a ride.

I think if you put a 250R front end on it, then took the racks off, added a Pro Link rear suspension and a high revving 2 stroke power plant. Change the frame to a light weight frame and add a blue seat and plastic gas tank. With all of these mods you just might have something to ride. I think the finished product should look something like this.......................
