that doesn't look like an 86. I see the 86 tank and radiator shrouds but looks like the rear fenders are wrong. Don't know

The 86-87 Tecate cylinders are not Bore-able. If it's wore you will have to have it replated or get it resleeved. I had this issue with a Tecate I was fixing a few years ago. I ended up finding a complete running motor and went that route.

why would they make a cylinder that wasnt borable? Isnt that kinda an incentive not to buy them? I'm sure it made more people go buy stock cylinders from kawi, but it doesnt seem too nice of them...greedy maybe?

The Nikisel liner disapates heat better then the cast iron sleeve. If I had my time back I would have replated my cylinder instead of sleeving it.

Whats the life span of Nikisel if you keep it running good, aircleaner cleaned?

Keep the nikisel!! It is much better than the iron sleeve. If you keep the air filter maintanence, mix fuel/oil, and jetting is correct then it will last literally forever. The only thing you will have to replace is piston and/or rings when they wear. (No more bore jobs!) I still have the original plating in all my tecates.
If urs had a bad seizure and the plating is damaged then you can get it replated for about the same cost as a new sleeve installed.

Looks like a colaboration of years. 84/8 fenders and front end but the engine looks 86 or 87 to me. Oh and blazer, if you keep a good airfilter in it and pull the top end every so many hours and check it out and at the most you need to put new rings in it. I will always go nikasil over a sleeve if I can

Nikilsilhas my vote, it transfers heat better, has less friction and produces more horsepower. I have the original nikasil bore in my tecate, I have ran only 32:1 and service the airfilter every month of riding.

Thorton, your wheels are on backwards. The shallow section is supposed to be inside bro.

Its an 86 that looks a little goofy, Pipe exits out of the right side, frame, tank and shrouds.
