Ok seems no one knows what the actual paint code is.

What have you guys had luck with at matching the stock colour? I want a close match but a little difference is ok.

My paint guy works at a large body shop, and when they run into a color that cannot be matched, they use a gun that scans the paint then gives a paint code that should be used. I had him do this on my 350x tank, you cant tell the difference between my paint and OEM paint, plus mine has a nice clear coat on it (I believe the orignal paint didnt have clear on it). If you can wait a little Im taking my Z frame to him , and can get you a code then.

Don't know the code, but Yamaha called it "Competition Yellow"

At work, I went through all of the paint color books at the bodyshop and put the yellows up against the frame and found a color that is exact, I couldnt tell a bit of differance between it and my frame.

Anyway, its actually a colour for a Honda car.

Honda Y52P
Indy Yellow
PPG# 5352/5353

You better check for yourself though, dont take my work for it, and then have it the wrong colour!

If I have no luck from the code I got then I will be very interested to hear what paint code you got ;).

The problem i can see with this is you were scanning a white and....... my frame had already been blasted and powdered purple at some point so i didnt have any of the original color to match to:cry: .

Don't know the code, but Yamaha called it "Competition Yellow"

I did some searches on good old google and found a litle of the colors that yamaha has used, Only one yellow has been used. On the computer screen it looks a little lighter but I cant really tell accurately.

YELLOW 1988 & UP 64-7187-8 GY51

Petes ATC is going to ask a paint guy if this is an actual paint code as it looks too long... i dont know.

From what I have seen of Indy Yellow, It does appear to be a pretty close match, but as said Its hard to tell without having the actual two side by side.
If I draw a blank on the yamah code I have then I will investigate this more.

There is a company called Color-rite. They are at color-rite.com
They have every factory color ever made. 100% factory matched paints for any bike, any year, any color. They are a bit pricey though. I think a pint of competition yellow is like $80-$100 bucks. It will be the same color that yamaha used. 100% genuine. Just type in color-rite.com goto the little box that says search. Type in competition yellow and it will come up. Then click on the words competition yellow and you will get an option list. They have color matched paint pens, spray cans, pints and quarts. This is the best route to go if you want it 100% original. Hope this helps.

Wow yes they are exspensive,

I just found the paint code!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.japartsnl.com/Eng/Motorverf/Yamaha/Index.htm

Scroll down to the competition yellow and gives you all the details and so i should be able to get some mixed up for a more resonable price. I just dont think i could justify spending the $72. If i can get some matched that would be excellent!!!.

Thanks for the link to color rite tho as it led me to the paint code in a round about way lol.

I have found alot of the parts since i PM'med you but i will make a new list of my new finds. Thanks again! i didnt know you were in Iraq, you da man!. ;)

Didnt you want to get your frame PC'd? Because I dont think they can get a custom color for you...at least this is what I've heard.

Nope im not getting it Pc'ed anymore. Im gonna do a gun spray job and spend the time preparing it so i get good adhearsion to the surface of the frame. And over the top of that a couple of coats of clear coat. Powdering around in my area turned out to be more exspensive that i was thinking and i think that if done properly i should get a better looking job. ;)
