Just rebuilt my 350X carb. Can get it started (10-15 kicks) with choke 1/2 or full, depending upon how cold out. Once she's warm it cranks though all the gears perfectly with no hesitation or stuttering what-so-ever. But CAN'T get'er started again when its HOT. Tried with thottle 1/8 thru full open while kicking and even with choke on. HERE'S THE PART I CAN'T FIGURE OUT! Then I pull the plug and it's completely dry! Seems like it's not getting any (or enough) gas into the cylinder (and plug should be soaked!) but the float bowl gets full where it starts dripping out tube. I had it apart a couple times after rebuild and checked/blew all passages clear with carb cleaner. It seems to run best (highest rpm's) with pilot screw out about 3-3.5 turns. Starts to bog at about 2 turns out. I guess what I need to know is what is the major componant of the carb that feeds fuel in to the cylinder when it's hot? Is it the slow jet or the pilot/air screw. I thought the pilot was just for fine tuning??? I'm running UNI w/full lid, stock 450r pipe w/HRC tip, 142 main, stock slow, and I had needle 2nd from top but moved it back to stock. HELP PLEASE!!!!!

Been there, been fooled by that. Float drop, in my case, the float was hanging up and would not let the needle fill the bowl. No way to catch it without being able to see the fuel level when its running. It can happen if the float drop is too high, or the float level is too low.

The pilot screw has nothing to do with high speed operation EXCEPT that it can affect transfer and plug fouling when going from low speed to high speed operation. IOW, if its too rich on low end, the plug can foul and that takes time to burn off once high speed operation begins.

OOPS: Heres a bad:

"but the float bowl gets full where it starts dripping out tube"

That shouldnt happen.

Im not a 350x expert but I dont think your hard starting when hot is a carb problem. From what you posted, it seems to me you are saying it runs fine once its started, and youre riding it around. If you run too lean, or if your float is cutting off early, its going to give you problems while running it. If your float isnt cutting off at all, it can flood it when its not running, but you mentioned a dry plug. If your pilot jet is clogged, it wont idle right, and if its clogged or too small, your air screw adjustments wont change anything. If you choke is staying on, it will start runing like crap as soon as it gets warm.

There is no carb component that is affected by hot or cold, beyond your habits of operating a manual choke. The pilot delivers fuel/air all the time, and the slide, needle, and main jet operate the rest of the throttle range.

A I said, Im not a 350X guy, but the direction Id go would be in the area of compression. Is the compression release adjustable, and is it right? Too much relase makes it easy to kick, but hard to start. Are your vavles adjusted right, and were they adjusted when the bike was hot? Im sure somebody else can help better than me, but it doenst sound like a carb problem to me. If it is fule delivery, is easy to check. When its hot and wont start, pull the plug, and shoot a small squirt of gas in the hole, and try it. It should start right up if lacking fuel is causing it.
