Yep, bought a 250R today, 400 bucks canadian, needs rear plastics, rebuilt motor, new rear tires (but, they are crap) twist throttle, just, crap like that.
It doesnt look like much, he tried to shave the front fender (and failed miserably) and the silencer that is on it is an Answer Equailzer, that the end blew off, so he jammed a hunk of wood in there and screw nailed a peice of green tin on the end, for some reason.
anyways, heres some pics:

Look at that front tire! its like that all the way around!!!
It will run, but the shifter was welded on and it took out the seal for the shift shaft. When i bought it, he threw in a new seal and a carb kit, which was pretty decent of him :) :)
So, did i get a good deal or no?

yeah, you got a decent deal, it ends up a little over 300 US i guess....def get a new shift shaft and shifter though, it really sucks when people weld that stuff on.....put 4-500 hundred in it and it will be a nice ride...youll have to come over to the states sometime and ride with me....

I am doing maier plastics front and rear (in black) with new red tank scoops, painting the tank gloss black, new rear tires, new handle bars, custom decals, DG or another answer silencer, and yes, a new shift shaft and shifter.
I dont think I will have to put 400-500 into it, I get a really good deal at my shop, parts wise, so, its only going to be the plastics that kill me...

Looks real good to me, needs fenders but thats obvious. Pretty sure a DG endcap will fit your silencer. Make sure you take care of the mechanical stuff before the cosmetics. Always lame having a pretty trike that has issues.

Well, today i worked on it, yanked the motor out, ground the weld the kid put on, found out the shift shaft is perfect (minus, a little bit on the end where its welded) but there was absolutley no splines left in the shifter itself, so, i replaced the seal and I have to wait until tuesday to get another shifter.
Didnt get the motor mounted in the frame yet, i took the swinger off, planning on painting it again, but, i am going to just mount the motor again, make sure everything is A- OK with the motor, and ride it for a bit, get my plastics and such.
The blue quad frame in the background is the 86 LT 250R i am helping my brother do up, he bought his the same day I bought mine, and i got 3x more work done on mine in a day and a half then he has with 2 other people helping him on his POS.
Pictures maybe tommorow, i forgot to take my camera to the shop today, sorry.

Im going all black and chrome w/ my 83R too. It looks like you did get a pretty good deal man. Just an FYI: I noticed on your Answer silencer there are no exhaust hangars between the silencer and the frame. Id put some sort of rubber bushing there if you havent got the hangars, because the vibrations will crack her up good! Also looks like the frame and swinger got a nice coat of paint!!

Yea, I am going to rubber bush the new silencer, unless it has hangers, then I wont, As far as the paint, the frame is good, but the swinger sucks, so, i might just touch it up again.
Trikezilla, do you have anymore pictures of your 83? That pic you posted was a little blurry, and hard to make out some of the detail, what I really want to see is the shrouds, exhaust, just stuff like that.

I would actually like an air cooled R. I will have to convince someone to let me ride one at Trike Fest this year. I think you got a good deal on it. As big green said, I always prefer my toys to be running flawlessly before I tear them apart and make them look pretty. As far as the pic goes Kintore that is Jeswineharts house, not sure whos trike that is, as far as I remember he didn't have an R.

How come I can never find a deal like that? Most ragged out Rs around here go for no less than 800-1000. I used to have a 84 air-cooled R. I absolutely loved it. Not quite as quick as the water-cooled 2 strokes, but was a blast. Really wish I had it back....
I would buy them all day long at that price and that condition.

Thats a front master cylinder resovoir for a Honda CB 500, LMAO
I am going to change that too, just, when I find a good used one. The twist throttle that is on it is just an Emgo universal 1/2 twist throttle.
Trikezilla, as far as pictures go, I just double checked your picture, and I want to see how you mounted your rear number plate, I always liked them and I want to see how you mounted it, if you dont mind that is...

Yep, no problem Charlie, I can get the rear number plates at my work, I just want to see how you mounted it to your 250R.
I am getting a front master cylinder at work, we have a bunch of stuff for the air cooled 250R's, i actually just snagged a sprocket gaurd, shift lever and then some other odds and ends (hardware) for 10 bucks.

BGM wins the prize!! It zip-tied on. If you are wondering why the grab bar is on up-side down: I saw a pictue from 1985/1986 and all the 250R guys had theirs upside down. I did it to make it look oldschool. Those things on my seat are the air deflectors (that bolt to the frame) custom made by AUSSIEDUNER, and the tank shrouds are his craftsmanship too, and I should mention the # plate is from him also. The shrouds I got on it now are 2 mil, but when Im done with the restore, I have a 3 mil pair the same color I will be using. The bolts are for a hex key Oh, the reason the DG is off is because she got all cracked up...dumb vibrations:lol:
In the pics its hard to see the zip-ties, but they are there.
Is there any way you can score me some parts?? I need exhaust hangars, rear caliper and a couple more odds and ends. Dont mean to steal your thread, just wondering is all.
I have some more I will have to post later as I need the phone:rolleyes: ;)

I dont know why the old racers turned their grab bars upside down. Looks like it'd be easier to put a foot on during a one footed standup wheelie though. lol

Well, got some more parts for the 250R today.
Maier Superscoops
Hondaline front fender extender
The front fender extender is still in the bag with the part number, and the super scoops were NOS we had kickin around at the shop when we stocked alot of maier stuff.

The downside to turning your grab bar upside down is it's a lot easier to flip all the way over backwards. If you tend to get all the way back on your bar on occasion when doing wheelies, DO NOT turn your bar over like that.

good to know, thanks Dammit!
I am going to possibly go with a used PRM or DG grab bar if i can find one on ebay

Ahh, ok I see why they did it that way. I dont ride that many wheelies on her, so Its not big deal...but it does make stand up wheelies a lot easier though!
